e4da7c5bee parse_crate_from_source_str takes a parse_sess, not codemap 
This was causing problems when reading from stdin for subsequent passes that
needed to generate node ids.

840a09c86e Add a --no-trans command line option 
Runs all passes before translation. This will be used for pretty-printing
tests to verify that the results are still probably valid Rust code.

f8bb5a3b58 Make ty::ctxt be boxed. 
Arguably we should leave ty_ctxt as a bare rec and just always work with
boxes of it. This winds up being simpler and prettier, though.

bd4aeef78b Beginnings of support for constrained types 
Programs with constrained types now parse and typecheck, but
typestate doesn't check them specially, so the one relevant test
case so far is XFAILed.

Also rewrote all of the constraint-related data structures in the
process (again), for some reason. I got rid of a superfluous
data structure in the context that was mapping front-end constraints
to resolved constraints, instead handling constraints in the same
way in which everything else gets resolved.

f26ca025de Make resolve and the typechecker check for a main fn of the 
correct type

This means if a non-library program leaves out the main program,
the error gets caught earlier than link.

6fd6fdea93 Move everything syntax-related to syntax/, break deps on rest of compiler 
src/comp/syntax is currently just a sub-module of rustc, but it will,
in the near future, be its own crate. This includes:

 - The AST data structure
 - The parser
 - The pretty-printer
 - Visit, walk, and fold
 - The syntax extension system
 - Some utility stuff that should be in the stdlib*

*) Stdlib extensions currently require a snapshot before they can be
   used, and the win build is very broken right now. This is temporary
   and will be cleaned up when one of those problems goes away.

A lot of code was moved by this patch, mostly towards a more organized
layout. Some package paths did get longer, and I guess the new layout
will take some getting used to. Sorry about that!

Please try not to re-introduce any dependencies in syntax/ on any of
the other src/comp/ subdirs.

4165d3640a Add a pass to fold out items that do not belong in the current configuration 
The parser needs to parse unconfigured items into the AST so that they can
make the round trip back through the pretty printer, but subsequent passes
shouldn't care about items not being translated. Running a fold pass after
parsing is the lowest-impact way to make this work. The performance seems
fine.

190644063e Be more strategic about linking to rust crates 
Instead of linking directly to the rust crate, try to figure out the location
and name of the library from the file name, then call gcc with appropriate -L,
-l flags. This will allow dynamic linking to be more forgiving about where it
loads the library from at runtime - currently a stage3 compiler can't run
correctly from the stage0 directory. Only tested on Linux. Fingers crossed.

9f1444c701 Implement "claim" 
Implement "claim" (issue #14), which is a version of "check" that
doesn't really do the check at runtime. It's an unsafe feature.

The new flag --check-claims turns claims into checks automatically --
but it's off by default, so by default, the assertion in a claim
doesn't execute at runtime.

40db3aa6fb Add a separate AST mapping phase 
This will replace the various node_id-to-node mappings done in several
other passes. This commit already uses the new map in resolve, dropping
the ast_map that was built there before.

75681f9ad7 Get rid of def_ids and anns in AST nodes, use single node_id 
This reduces some redundancy in the AST data structures and cruft in
the code that works with them. To get a def_id from a node_id, apply
ast::local_def, which adds the local crate_num to the given node_id.
Most code only deals with crate-local node_ids, and won't have to
create def_ids at all.

3d8a5cb9e6 Remember the library files we used in rustc and pass them to the "linker". 
This avoid the hardcoded -lstd, allows programs to use other crates and avoids

a5bca7df88 Refactor data structures representing constraints (again...) 
I added a "resolved" version of the ast::constr type -- ty::constr_def
-- that has a def_id field instead of an ann_field. This is more
consistent with other types and eliminates some checking.

Incidentally, I removed the def_map argument to the top-level function
in middle::alias, since the ty::ctxt already has a def_map field.

17ff2a0d79 Further support for predicate constraints 
Changed function types to include a list of constraints. Added
code for parsing and pretty-printing constraints. This necessitated
splitting pprust into two files (pprust and ppaux) to break a
circulate dependency, as ty_to_str now needs to print out constraints,
which may include literals, but pprust depended on ty.

4bd5f834b0 First take on an alias-safety checker 
The alias checker works by ensuring that any value to which an alias
is created is rooted in some way that ensures it outlives the alias.

It is now disallowed to create an alias to the content of a mutable
box, or to a box hanging off a mutable field. There is also machinery
in place to prevent assignment to local variables whenever they are
the root of a live alias.

get_os and get_arch were failing to return a value in the error
case; they were also assuming that strings are indexed from 1. No
idea how they ever worked, but anyway, fixed.

971b5d5151 Started adding support for return checking and non-returning function annotations 
* Reorganized typestate into several modules.

* Made typestate check that any function with a non-nil return type
  returns a value. For now, the check is a warning and not an error
  (see next item).

* Added a "bot" type (prettyprinted as _|_), for constructs like be, ret, break, cont, and
  fail that don't locally return a value that can be inspected. "bot"
  is distinct from "nil". There is no concrete syntax for _|_, while
  the concrete syntax for the nil type is ().

* Added support to the parser for a ! annotation on functions whose
  result type is _|_. Such a function is required to have either a
  fail or a call to another ! function that is reached in all control
  flow paths. The point of this annotation is to mark functions like
  unimpl() and span_err(), so that an alt with a call to err() in one
  case isn't a false positive for the return-value checker. I haven't
  actually annotated anything with it yet.

* Random bugfixes:

* * Fixed bug in trans::trans_binary that was throwing away the
    cleanups for nested subexpressions of an and or or
    (tests: box-inside-if and box-inside-if2).

** In typeck, unify the expected type arguments of a tag with the
   actual specified arguments.

58ec5d1654 Move capture checking into resolve.rs 
Drops capture.rs. The new algorithm also checks for captures function

358a1aeec9 Keep resolve data in external hash table, rather than embedded defs 
One step closer to removing fold and having a single, immutable AST.
Resolve still uses fold, because it has to detect and transform
expr_field expressions. If we go through on our plan of moving to a
different syntax for module dereferencing, the parser can spit out
expr_field expressions, and resolve can move to walk.

(I am truly sorry for the things I did in typestate_check.rs. I expect
we'll want to change that to walk as well in the near future, at which
point it should probably pass around a context record, which could
hold the def_map.)

34dae82b48 Add a session field to ty_ctxt and change an err to span_err 
I changed instantiate to print out a more helpful error message,
which required passing it a session argument. To avoid
threading extra arguments through a lot of functions,
I added a session field to ty_ctxt.

1af3174fe3 Move to single-uint file-position representation. 
This makes passing them around cheaper. There is now a table (see
front/codemap.rs) that is needed to transform such an uint into an
actual filename/line/col location.

Also cleans up the span building in the parser a bit.

3130348ee1 Started adding support for typestate checking. 
I added a new field to the ast "ann" type for typestate information.
Currently, the field contains a record of a precondition bit vector and
postcondition vector, but I tried to structure things so as to make
it easy to change the representation of the typestate annotation type.
I also had to add annotations to some syntactic forms that didn't have
them before (fail, ret, be...), with all the boilerplate changes
that that would imply.

The main call to the typestate_check entry point is commented out and
the actual pre-postcondition algorithm only has a few cases
implemented, though the overall AST traversal is there. The rest of
the typestate algorithm isn't implemented yet.

441697ab35 Extend stream functionality 
Writer and reader streams now come with methods to write and read
little-endian numbers. Whether that is the right place for such
methods is debatable, but for now, that's where they live.

3aac5059ee Move the glue code to a .o file. This reduces how much asm we print 
in each "translation unit".

Part of it is not repetitive and should probably be moved to a .ll file, but
for now we autogen all of it.
