As per Issue #1193. Closes#1193.
I had to rename a few variables ("info" and "epsilon") to avoid
clashing with in-scope constants, which is responsible for all the
changes other than resolve and issue-1193.rs.
Introduce syntax like:
iface animal { ... }
class cat implements animal { ... }
to allow classes to implement ifaces. Casting classes to ifaces
is *not* yet supported. ifaces that a class implements are not
yet included in metadata.
The syntax is subject to change, and may go away completely if we
decide to use duck typing to relate classes with ifaces (see
http://smallcultfollowing.com/babysteps/blog/2012/04/10/declared-vs-duckish-typing/ )
Most could use the each method, but because of the hack used to
disambiguate old- and new-style loops, some had to use vec::each.
(This hack will go away soon.)
Issue #1619
- we now distinguish bound/free parameters (see region-param
test case for why this is necessary)
- we also track bounds on region variables
- also, restructure fold_ty() to have multiple variants without
duplication instead of one overloaded folder. This also allows
for using block functions.
All field or method references within a class must begin with "self." now.
A bare reference to a field or method in the same class will no longer
typecheck.
Allow writing self.f() within a class that has a method f. In a future
commit, this syntax will be required. For now, you can write either
self.f() or f().
I added a "privacy" field to all methods (whether class methods or not),
which allowed me to refactor the AST somewhat (getting rid of the
class_item type; now there's just class_member).
1. Enforce mutability declarations on class fields. Don't allow any
mutation of class fields not declared as mutable (except inside the
constructor).
2. Handle classes correctly in shape (treat classes like records).
This was resulting in a different error message depending on whether
the private method you were trying to call was in the same crate
or a different one.
- Move io, run and rand to core.
- Remove incorrect ctypes module (use libc).
- Remove os-specific modules for os and fs.
- Split fs between core::path and core::os.
This required changing almost all users of hashmaps to import the hashmap interface first.
The `size` member in the hashmap structure was renamed to `count` to work around a name conflict.

Issue #352Closes#1720
The old checker would happily accept things like 'alt x { @some(a) { a } }'.
It now properly descends into patterns, checks exhaustiveness of booleans,
and complains when number/string patterns aren't exhaustive.
Now that core exports "option" as a synonym for option::t, search-and-
replace option::t with option.
The only place that still refers to option::t are the modules in libcore
that use option, because fixing this requires a new snapshot
(forthcoming).
When no built-in interpretation is found for one of the operators
mentioned below, the typechecker will try to turn it into a method
call with the name written next to it. For binary operators, the
method will be called on the LHS with the RHS as only parameter.
Binary:
+ op_add
- op_sub
* op_mul
/ op_div
% op_rem
& op_and
| op_or
^ op_xor
<< op_shift_left
>> op_shift_right
>>> op_ashift_right
Unary:
- op_neg
! op_not
Overloading of the indexing ([]) operator isn't finished yet.
Issue #1520
Although its not really needed. Without that fix, reported spans will
likely be bogus if the error is within the first couple of lines
(probable around 5) of that file. Thus, many of the compile-fail
tests will fail due to incorrect location.
Check that in export foo{}, foo is an enum type, and that in export
foo{bar, quux}, foo is an enum type and bar and quux are variants belonging
to foo.
See issue 1426 for details. Now, the semantics of "export t;" where t is a tag are
to export all of t's variants as well. "export t{};" exports t but not its
variants, while "export t{a, b, c};" exports only variants a, b, c of t.
To do:
- documentation
- there's currently no checking that a, b, c are actually variants of t in the
above example
- there's also no checking that t is an enum type, in the second two examples above
- change the modules listed in issue 1426 that should have the old export
semantics to use the t{} syntax
I deleted the test export-no-tag-variants since we're doing the opposite now,
and other tests cover the same behavior.
Support Lenny222's proposed syntax for exporting a tag without
its variants, or selected tags from a variant, in the AST and parser.
No support further down the line yet. Tests are xfailed.
Previously, typestate would conclude that this function was
correctly diverging:
fn f() -> ! { ret; fail; }
even though it always returns to the caller. It wasn't handling the
i_diverge and i_return bits correctly in the fail case. Fixed it.
Closes#897
Remove disr_val from ast::variant_ and always use ty::variant_info
when the value is needed. Move what was done during parsing into
other passes, primary typeck.rs. This move also correctly type checks
the disr. value expression; thus, fixing rustc --pretty=typed when
disr. values are used.
Addresses issue #1393.
For now disallow disr. values unless all variants use nullary
contractors (i.e. "enum-like").
Disr. values are now encoded in the crate metadata, but only when it
will differ from the inferred value based on the order.
Now, if you have a tag named "foo", a variable declaration like
"let foo..." is illegal. This change makes it possible to eliminate
the '.' after a nullary tag pattern in an alt (but I'll be doing
that in a future commit) -- as now it's always obvious whether a
name refers to a tag or a new declared variable.
resolve implements this change -- all the other changes are just to
get rid of existing code that declares variables that shadow tag
names.
We should probalby warn when defining a method foo on {foo: int} etc.
This should reduce the amount of useless typevars that are allocated.
Issue #1227
I think it should undefined to have multiple modules that link in the same
library, but provide different link arguments. Unfortunately we don't track
link_args by module -- they are just appended as discovered into the crate
store -- but for now, it should be an error to provide link_args on a module
that's already been included (with or without link_args).
Get rid of expr_self_call, introduces def_self. `self` is now,
syntactically, simply a variable. A method implicitly brings a `self`
binding into scope.
Issue #1227
The path information was an optional "filename" component of crate
directive AST. It is now replaced by an attribute with metadata named
"path".
With this commit, a directive
mod foo = "foo.rs";
should be written as:
#[path = "foo.rs"]
mod foo;
Closes issue #906.
It's proving too inflexible, so I'm ripping out the extra complexity
in the hope that regions will, at some point, provide something
similar.
Closes#918
This involved adding 'copy' to more generics than I hoped, but an
experiment with making it implicit showed that that way lies madness --
unless enforced, you will not remember to mark functions that don't
copy as not requiring copyable kind.
Issue #1177
This goes before a snapshot, so that subsequenct patches can make the
transition without breaking the build. Disables kind checking pass, makes
parser accept both new and old-style kind annotation.
Issue #1177
This patch changes how to specify ABI and link name of a native module.
Before:
native "cdecl" mod llvm = "rustllvm" {...}
After:
#[abi = "cdecl"]
#[link_name = "rustllvm"]
native mod llvm {...}
The old optional syntax for ABI and link name is no longer supported.
Fixes issue #547
It now threads information about invalidated aliases through the AST
properly. This makes it more permissive for conditionals (invalidating
an alias in one branch doesn't prevent you from using it in another),
and less permissive for loops (it now properly notices when a loop
invalidates an alias that it might still use in another iteration).
