1702098e6f Dataflow changes and associated borrowck fix.
Revise rustc::middle::dataflow: one must select kill-kind when calling
add_kill. The current kill-kinds are (1.) kills associated with
ends-of-scopes and (2.) kills associated with the actual action of the
expression/pattern.

Then, use this to fix borrowck analysis so that it will not treat a
break that pops through an assignment `x = { ... break; ... }` as a
kill of the "moved-out" bit for `x`.

Fix #24267.

1e79870770 Modify the ExprUseVisitor to walk each part of an AutoRef, and in
particular to treat an AutoUnsize as as kind of "instantaneous" borrow
of the value being unsized. This prevents us from feeding uninitialized
data.

This caused a problem for the eager reborrow of comparison traits,
because that wound up introducing a "double AutoRef", which was not
being thoroughly checked before but turned out not to type check.
Fortunately, we can just remove that "eager reborrow" as it is no longer
needed now that `PartialEq` doesn't force both LHS and RHS to have the
same type (and even if we did have this problem, the better way would be
to lean on introducing a common supertype).

Disallow writing through mutable pointers stored in non-mut Box.

Fix #14270 

The fix works by making `cmt::freely_aliasable` result more fine-grained.

Instead of encoding the aliasability (i.e. whether the cmt is uniquely writable or not) as an option, now pass back an enum indicating either: 1. freely-aliasable (thus not uniquely-writable), 2. non-aliasable (thus uniquely writable), or 3. unique but immutable (and thus not uniquely writable, according to proposal from issue #14270.)

This is all of course a giant hack that will hopefully go away with an eventually removal of special treatment of `Box<T>` (aka `ty_unique`) from the compiler.

753efb5042 rollup merge of #23601: nikomatsakis/by-value-index
This is a [breaking-change]. When indexing a generic map (hashmap, etc) using the `[]` operator, it is now necessary to borrow explicitly, so change `map[key]` to `map[&key]` (consistent with the `get` routine). However, indexing of string-valued maps with constant strings can now be written `map["abc"]`.

8389253df0 Add generic conversion traits
This commit:

* Introduces `std::convert`, providing an implementation of
RFC 529.

* Deprecates the `AsPath`, `AsOsStr`, and `IntoBytes` traits, all
in favor of the corresponding generic conversion traits.

  Consequently, various IO APIs now take `AsRef<Path>` rather than
`AsPath`, and so on. Since the types provided by `std` implement both
traits, this should cause relatively little breakage.

* Deprecates many `from_foo` constructors in favor of `from`.

* Changes `PathBuf::new` to take no argument (creating an empty buffer,
  as per convention). The previous behavior is now available as
  `PathBuf::from`.

* De-stabilizes `IntoCow`. It's not clear whether we need this separate trait.

`[]` on maps to `get` in rustc, since stage0 and stage1+ disagree about
how to use `[]`.

f35f973cb7 Use consts instead of statics where appropriate
This changes the type of some public constants/statics in libunicode.
Notably some `&'static &'static [(char, char)]` have changed
to `&'static [(char, char)]`. The regexp crate seems to be the
sole user of these, yet this is technically a [breaking-change]

This commit is an implementation of [RFC 823][rfc] which is another pass over
the `std::hash` module for stabilization. The contents of the module were not
entirely marked stable, but some portions which remained quite similar to the
previous incarnation are now marked `#[stable]`. Specifically:

* `std::hash` is now stable (the name)
* `Hash` is now stable
* `Hash::hash` is now stable
* `Hasher` is now stable
* `SipHasher` is now stable
* `SipHasher::new` and `new_with_keys` are now stable
* `Hasher for SipHasher` is now stable
* Many `Hash` implementations are now stable

All other portions of the `hash` module remain `#[unstable]` as they are less
commonly used and were recently redesigned.

This commit is a breaking change due to the modifications to the `std::hash` API
and more details can be found on the [RFC][rfc].

32d0dbd49a librustc: Forbid partial reinitialization of uninitialized structures or
enumerations that implement the `Drop` trait.

This breaks code like:

    struct Struct {
        f: String,
        g: String,
    }

    impl Drop for Struct { ... }

    fn main() {
        let x = Struct { ... };
        drop(x);
        x.f = ...;
    }

Change this code to not create partially-initialized structures. For
example:

    struct Struct {
        f: String,
        g: String,
    }

    impl Drop for Struct { ... }

    fn main() {
        let x = Struct { ... };
        drop(x);
        x = Struct {
            f: ...,
            g: ...,
        }
    }

There are a number of holes that the stability lint did not previously cover,
including:

* Types
* Bounds on type parameters on functions and impls
* Where clauses
* Imports
* Patterns (structs and enums)

These holes have all been fixed by overriding the `visit_path` function on the
AST visitor instead of a few specialized cases. This change also necessitated a
few stability changes:

* The `collections::fmt` module is now stable (it was already supposed to be).
* The `thread_local:👿:Key` type is now stable (it was already supposed to
  be).
* The `std::rt::{begin_unwind, begin_unwind_fmt}` functions are now stable.
  These are required via the `panic!` macro.
* The `std::old_io::stdio::{println, println_args}` functions are now stable.
  These are required by the `print!` and `println!` macros.
* The `ops::{FnOnce, FnMut, Fn}` traits are now `#[stable]`. This is required to
  make bounds with these traits stable. Note that manual implementations of
  these traits are still gated by default, this stability only allows bounds
  such as `F: FnOnce()`.

81383bd869 Added DestructionScope variant to CodeExtent, representing the area
immediately surrounding a node that is a terminating_scope
(e.g. statements, looping forms) during which the destructors run (the
destructors for temporaries from the execution of that node, that is).

Introduced DestructionScopeData newtype wrapper around ast::NodeId, to
preserve invariant that FreeRegion and ScopeChain::BlockScope carry
destruction scopes (rather than arbitrary CodeExtents).

Insert DestructionScope and block Remainder into enclosing CodeExtents
hierarchy.

Add more doc for DestructionScope, complete with ASCII art.

Switch to constructing DestructionScope rather than Misc in a number
of places, mostly related to `ty::ReFree` creation, and use
destruction-scopes of node-ids at various calls to
liberate_late_bound_regions.

middle::resolve_lifetime: Map BlockScope to DestructionScope in `fn resolve_free_lifetime`.

Add the InnermostDeclaringBlock and InnermostEnclosingExpr enums that
are my attempt to clarify the region::Context structure, and that
later commmts build upon.

Improve the debug output for `CodeExtent` attached to `ty::Region::ReScope`.

Loosened an assertion in `rustc_trans::trans::cleanup` to account for
`DestructionScope`.  (Perhaps this should just be switched entirely
over to `DestructionScope`, rather than allowing for either `Misc` or
`DestructionScope`.)

Even though the DestructionScope is new, this particular commit should
not actually change the semantics of any current code.
