b09522a634 Remove the loop from Parser::bump().
The loop is there to handle a `NoDelim` open/close token. This commit
changes `TokenCursor::inlined_next` so it never returns such a token.
This is a performance win because the conditional test in `bump()` is
removed.

If the parser needs changing in the future to handle `NoDelim` tokens,
then `inlined_next()` can easily be changed to return them.

86723d3d46 Use true for open_delim/close_delim in one spot.
The `DelimToken` here is `NoDelim`, which means the returned delim
tokens will just be ignored by `Parser::bump()`. This commit changes
things so the delim tokens won't be returned.

Parse inner attributes on inline const block

According to https://github.com/rust-lang/rust/pull/84414#issuecomment-826150936, inner attributes are intended to be supported *"in all containers for statements (or some subset of statements)"*.

This PR adds inner attribute parsing and pretty-printing for inline const blocks (https://github.com/rust-lang/rust/issues/76001), which contain statements just like an unsafe block or a loop body.

```rust
let _ = const {
    #![allow(...)]
    let x = ();
    x
};
7f91697b50 errors: implement fallback diagnostic translation
This commit updates the signatures of all diagnostic functions to accept
types that can be converted into a `DiagnosticMessage`. This enables
existing diagnostic calls to continue to work as before and Fluent
identifiers to be provided. The `SessionDiagnostic` derive just
generates normal diagnostic calls, so these APIs had to be modified to
accept Fluent identifiers.
In addition, loading of the "fallback" Fluent bundle, which contains the
built-in English messages, has been implemented.
Each diagnostic now has "arguments" which correspond to variables in the
Fluent messages (necessary to render a Fluent message) but no API for
adding arguments has been added yet. Therefore, diagnostics (that do not
require interpolation) can be converted to use Fluent identifiers and
will be output as before.
c45f29595d span: move MultiSpan
`MultiSpan` contains labels, which are more complicated with the
introduction of diagnostic translation and will use types from
`rustc_errors` - however, `rustc_errors` depends on `rustc_span` so
`rustc_span` cannot use types like `DiagnosticMessage` without
dependency cycles. Introduce a new `rustc_error_messages` crate that can
contain `DiagnosticMessage` and `MultiSpan`.
Remove `Session::one_time_diagnostic`
This is untracked mutable state, which modified the behaviour of queries.
It was used for 2 things: some full-blown errors, but mostly for lint declaration notes ("the lint level is defined here" notes).
It is replaced by the diagnostic deduplication infra which already exists in the diagnostic emitter.
A new diagnostic level `OnceNote` is introduced specifically for lint notes, to deduplicate subdiagnostics.
As a drive-by, diagnostic emission takes a `&mut` to allow dropping the `SubDiagnostic`s.
86220d6e51 Fix rustfix panic on test
`run-rustfix` applies all suggestions regardless of their Applicability.
There's a flag, `rustfix-only-machine-applicable`, that does what it
says, but then the produced `.fixed` file would have invalid code from
the suggestions that weren't applied. So, I moved the cases of postfix
increment, in which case multiple suggestions are given, to the
`-notfixed` test, which does not run rustfix.
I also changed the Applicability to Unspecified since MaybeIncorrect
requires that the code be valid, even if it's incorrect.
Our old way to suggest where to add `use`s would first look for pre-existing `use`s in the relevant crate/module, and if there are *no* uses, it would fallback on trying to use another item as the basis for the suggestion.
This PR instead identifies span of the first token after any inner attributes, and uses *that* as the fallback for the `use` suggestion.
d37da1e332 Adjusted diagnostic output so that if there is no use in a item sequence,
then we just suggest the first legal position where you could inject a use.
To do this, I added `inject_use_span` field to `ModSpans`, and populate it in
parser (it is the span of the first token found after inner attributes, if any).
Then I rewrote the use-suggestion code to utilize it, and threw out some stuff
that is now unnecessary with this in place. (I think the result is easier to
understand.)
Then I added a test of issue 87613.
Rollup merge of #91150 - dtolnay:qpath, r=davidtwco
Let qpath contain NtTy: `<$:ty as $:ty>::…`
Example:
```rust
macro_rules! m {
    (<$type:ty as $trait:ty>::$name:ident) => {
        <$type as $trait>::$name
    };
}

fn main() {
    let _: m!(<str as ToOwned>::Owned);
}
```
Previous behavior:
```console
error: expected identifier, found `ToOwned`
 --> src/main.rs:3:19
  |
3 |         <$type as $trait>::$name
  |                   ^^^^^^ expected identifier
...
8 |     let _: m!(<str as ToOwned>::Owned);
  |            ---------------------------
  |            |
  | this macro call doesn't expand to a type
  |            in this macro invocation
```
The <code>expected identifier, found \`ToOwned\`</code> error is particularly silly. I think it should be fine to accept this code as long as $trait is of the form `TyKind::Path(None, path)`; if it is any other kind of `NtTy`, we'll keep the same behavior as before.
6611567f9e Expect extern fn with no body when parsing
Also add a test case for inserting a semicolon on extern fns.
Without this fix, we got an error like this:
Since this is inside an extern block, you're required to write function
error: expected one of `.`, `;`, `?`, `else`, or an operator, found `{`
 --> src/main.rs:4:12
  |
4 |     } else { 4 };
  |            ^ expected one of `.`, `;`, `?`, `else`, or an operator
Fix error recovery in format macro parsing
Fixes #88770. Basically, the assumption in the following comment is incorrect:
b69fe57261/compiler/rustc_builtin_macros/src/format.rs (L167-L172)
This is only true in the first iteration of the loop, when [`p.clear_expected_tokens()`](b69fe57261/compiler/rustc_builtin_macros/src/format.rs (L164)) is called. In subsequent iterations, `p.expected_tokens` won't be empty, so `p.expect()` won't actually call `unexpected_try_recover()`:
b69fe57261/compiler/rustc_parse/src/parser/mod.rs (L487-L498)
Instead, it will call `expect_one_of()`, which _can_ recover and return `Ok()`. This PR handles this case to fix the ICE in #88770.
ac2d9fc509 Auto merge of #89103 - Mark-Simulacrum:migrate-2021, r=estebank
Migrate in-tree crates to 2021
This replaces #89075 (cherry picking some of the commits from there), and closes #88637 and fixes #89074.
It excludes a migration of the library crates for now (see tidy diff) because we have some pending bugs around macro spans to fix there.
I instrumented bootstrap during the migration to make sure all crates moved from 2018 to 2021 had the compatibility warnings applied first.
Originally, the intent was to support cargo fix --edition within bootstrap, but this proved fairly difficult to pull off. We'd need to architect the check functionality to support running cargo check and cargo fix within the same x.py invocation, and only resetting sysroots on check. Further, it was found that cargo fix doesn't behave too well with "not quite workspaces", such as Clippy which has several crates. Bootstrap runs with --manifest-path ... for all the tools, and this makes cargo fix only attempt migration for that crate. We can't use e.g. --workspace due to needing to maintain sysroots for different phases of compilation appropriately.
It is recommended to skip the mass migration of Cargo.toml's to 2021 for review purposes; you can also use `git diff d6cd2c6c87 -I'^edition = .20...$'` to ignore the edition = 2018/21 lines in the diff.
Rollup merge of #88690 - m-ou-se:macro-braces-dot-question-expr-parse, r=nagisa
Accept `m!{ .. }.method()` and `m!{ .. }?` statements.
This PR fixes something that I keep running into when using `quote!{}.into()` in a proc macro to convert the `proc_macro2::TokenStream` to a `proc_macro::TokenStream`:
Before:
```
error: expected expression, found `.`
 --> src/lib.rs:6:6
  |
4 |     quote! {
5 |         ...
6 |     }.into()
  |      ^ expected expression
```
After:
```
```
(No output, compiles fine.)
---
Context:
For expressions like `{ 1 }` and `if true { 1 } else { 2 }`, we accept them as full statements without a trailing `;`, which means the following is not accepted:
```rust
{ 1 } - 1 // error
```
since that is parsed as two statements: `{ 1 }` and `-1`. Syntactically correct, but the type of `{ 1 }` should be `()` as there is no `;`.
However, for specifically `.` and `?` after the `}`, we do [continue parsing it as an expression](13db8440bb/compiler/rustc_parse/src/parser/expr.rs (L864-L876)):
```rust
{ "abc" }.len(); // ok
```
For braced macro invocations, we do not do this:
```rust
vec![1, 2, 3].len(); // ok
vec!{1, 2, 3}.len(); // error
```
(It parses `vec!{1, 2, 3}` as a full statement, and then complains about `.len()` not being a valid expression.)
This PR changes this to also look for a `.` and `?` after a braced macro invocation. We can be sure the macro is an expression and not a full statement in those cases, since no statement can start with a `.` or `?`.
