Avoid duplicating StorageLive in let-else

cc `@est31`

Fix #101867
Fix #101932

#101410 introduced directives to activate storages of bindings in let-else earlier. However, since it is using the machinery of `match` and friends for pattern matching and binding, those storages are activated for the second time. This PR adjusts this behavior and avoid the duplicated activation for let-else statements.

Stabilize `let else`

🎉  **Stabilizes the `let else` feature, added by [RFC 3137](https://github.com/rust-lang/rfcs/pull/3137).** 🎉

Reference PR: https://github.com/rust-lang/reference/pull/1156

closes #87335 (`let else` tracking issue)

## Stabilization report

### Summary

The feature allows refutable patterns in `let` statements if the expression is
followed by a diverging `else`:

```Rust
fn get_count_item(s: &str) -> (u64, &str) {
    let mut it = s.split(' ');
    let (Some(count_str), Some(item)) = (it.next(), it.next()) else {
        panic!("Can't segment count item pair: '{s}'");
    };
    let Ok(count) = u64::from_str(count_str) else {
        panic!("Can't parse integer: '{count_str}'");
    };
    (count, item)
}
assert_eq!(get_count_item("3 chairs"), (3, "chairs"));
```

### Differences from the RFC / Desugaring

Outside of desugaring I'm not aware of any differences between the implementation and the RFC. The chosen desugaring has been changed from the RFC's [original](https://rust-lang.github.io/rfcs/3137-let-else.html#reference-level-explanations). You can read a detailed discussion of the implementation history of it in `@cormacrelf` 's [summary](https://github.com/rust-lang/rust/pull/93628#issuecomment-1041143670) in this thread, as well as the [followup](https://github.com/rust-lang/rust/pull/93628#issuecomment-1046598419). Since that followup, further changes have happened to the desugaring, in #98574, #99518, #99954. The later changes were mostly about the drop order: On match, temporaries drop in the same order as they would for a `let` declaration. On mismatch, temporaries drop before the `else` block.

### Test cases

In chronological order as they were merged.

Added by df9a2e0687 (#87688):

* [`ui/pattern/usefulness/top-level-alternation.rs`](https://github.com/rust-lang/rust/blob/1.58.1/src/test/ui/pattern/usefulness/top-level-alternation.rs) to ensure the unreachable pattern lint visits patterns inside `let else`.

Added by 5b95df4bdc (#87688):

* [`ui/let-else/let-else-bool-binop-init.rs`](https://github.com/rust-lang/rust/blob/1.58.1/src/test/ui/let-else/let-else-bool-binop-init.rs) to ensure that no lazy boolean expressions (using `&&` or `||`) are allowed in the expression, as the RFC mandates.
* [`ui/let-else/let-else-brace-before-else.rs`](https://github.com/rust-lang/rust/blob/1.58.1/src/test/ui/let-else/let-else-brace-before-else.rs) to ensure that no `}` directly preceding the `else` is allowed in the expression, as the RFC mandates.
* [`ui/let-else/let-else-check.rs`](https://github.com/rust-lang/rust/blob/1.58.1/src/test/ui/let-else/let-else-check.rs) to ensure that `#[allow(...)]` attributes added to the entire `let` statement apply for the `else` block.
* [`ui/let-else/let-else-irrefutable.rs`](https://github.com/rust-lang/rust/blob/1.58.1/src/test/ui/let-else/let-else-irrefutable.rs) to ensure that the `irrefutable_let_patterns` lint fires.
* [`ui/let-else/let-else-missing-semicolon.rs`](https://github.com/rust-lang/rust/blob/1.58.1/src/test/ui/let-else/let-else-missing-semicolon.rs) to ensure the presence of semicolons at the end of the `let` statement.
* [`ui/let-else/let-else-non-diverging.rs`](https://github.com/rust-lang/rust/blob/1.58.1/src/test/ui/let-else/let-else-non-diverging.rs) to ensure the `else` block diverges.
* [`ui/let-else/let-else-run-pass.rs`](https://github.com/rust-lang/rust/blob/1.58.1/src/test/ui/let-else/let-else-run-pass.rs) to ensure the feature works in some simple test case settings.
* [`ui/let-else/let-else-scope.rs`](https://github.com/rust-lang/rust/blob/1.58.1/src/test/ui/let-else/let-else-scope.rs) to ensure the bindings created by the outer `let` expression are not available in the `else` block of it.

Added by bf7c32a447 (#89965):

* [`ui/let-else/issue-89960.rs`](https://github.com/rust-lang/rust/blob/1.58.1/src/test/ui/let-else/issue-89960.rs) as a regression test for the ICE-on-error bug #89960 . Later in 102b9125e1 this got removed in favour of more comprehensive tests.

Added by 856541963c (#89974):

* [`ui/let-else/let-else-if.rs`](https://github.com/rust-lang/rust/blob/1.58.1/src/test/ui/let-else/let-else-if.rs) to test for the improved error message that points out that `let else if` is not possible.

Added by 9b45713b6c:

* [`ui/let-else/let-else-allow-unused.rs`](https://github.com/rust-lang/rust/blob/1.61.0/src/test/ui/let-else/let-else-allow-unused.rs) as a regression test for #89807, to ensure that `#[allow(...)]` attributes added to the entire `let` statement apply for bindings created by the `let else` pattern.

Added by 61bcd8d307 (#89841):

* [`ui/let-else/let-else-non-copy.rs`](https://github.com/rust-lang/rust/blob/1.61.0/src/test/ui/let-else/let-else-non-copy.rs) to ensure that a copy is performed out of non-copy wrapper types. This mirrors `if let` behaviour. The test case bases on rustc internal changes originally meant for #89933 but then removed from the PR due to the error prior to the improvements of #89841.
* [`ui/let-else/let-else-source-expr-nomove-pass.rs `](https://github.com/rust-lang/rust/blob/1.61.0/src/test/ui/let-else/let-else-source-expr-nomove-pass.rs) to ensure that while there is a move of the binding in the successful case, the `else` case can still access the non-matching value. This mirrors `if let` behaviour.

Added by 102b9125e1 (#89841):

* [`ui/let-else/let-else-ref-bindings.rs`](https://github.com/rust-lang/rust/blob/1.61.0/src/test/ui/let-else/let-else-ref-bindings.rs) and [`ui/let-else/let-else-ref-bindings-pass.rs `](https://github.com/rust-lang/rust/blob/1.61.0/src/test/ui/let-else/let-else-ref-bindings-pass.rs) to check `ref` and `ref mut` keywords in the pattern work correctly and error when needed.

Added by 76ea566677 (#94211):

* [`ui/let-else/let-else-destructuring.rs`](https://github.com/rust-lang/rust/blob/1.63.0/src/test/ui/let-else/let-else-destructuring.rs) to give a nice error message if an user tries to do an assignment with a (possibly refutable) pattern and an `else` block, like asked for in #93995.

Added by e7730dcb7e (#94208):

* [`ui/let-else/let-else-allow-in-expr.rs`](https://github.com/rust-lang/rust/blob/1.61.0/src/test/ui/let-else/let-else-allow-in-expr.rs) to test whether `#[allow(unused_variables)]` works in the expr, as well as its non presence, as well as putting it on the entire `let else` *affects* the expr, too. This was adding a missing test as pointed out by the stabilization report.
* Expansion of `ui/let-else/let-else-allow-unused.rs` and `ui/let-else/let-else-check.rs` to ensure that non-presence of `#[allow(unused)]` does issue the unused lint. This was adding a missing test case as pointed out by the stabilization report.

Added by 5bd71063b3 (#94208):

* [`ui/let-else/let-else-slicing-error.rs`](https://github.com/rust-lang/rust/blob/1.61.0/src/test/ui/let-else/let-else-slicing-error.rs), a regression test for #92069, which got fixed without addition of a regression test. This resolves a missing test as pointed out by the stabilization report.

But if there is no such check, it would be neat to make sure that `let ... = ({}) else {}` compiles.~~ → *test added by e7730dcb7eb29a10ee73f269f4dc6e9d606db0da*
* ~~#92069 got closed as fixed, but no regression test was added. Not sure it's worth to add one.~~ → *test added by 5bd71063b3810d977aa376d1e6dd7cec359330cc*

Edit: they are all tested now.

### Possible future work / Refutable destructuring assignments

[RFC 2909](https://rust-lang.github.io/rfcs/2909-destructuring-assignment.html) specifies destructuring assignment, allowing statements like `FooBar { a, b, c } = foo();`.
As it was stabilized, destructuring assignment only allows *irrefutable* patterns, which before the advent of `let else` were the only patterns that `let` supported.
So the combination of `let else` and destructuring assignments gives reason to think about extensions of the destructuring assignments feature that allow refutable patterns, discussed in #93995.

A naive mapping of `let else` to destructuring assignments in the form of `Some(v) = foo() else { ... };` might not be the ideal way. `let else` needs a diverging `else` clause as it introduces new bindings, while assignments have a default behaviour to fall back to if the pattern does not match, in the form of not performing the assignment. Thus, there is no good case to require divergence, or even an `else` clause at all, beyond the need for having *some* introducer syntax so that it is clear to readers that the assignment is not a given (enums and structs look similar). There are better candidates for introducer syntax however than an empty `else {}` clause, like `maybe` which could be added as a keyword on an edition boundary:

```Rust
let mut v = 0;
maybe Some(v) = foo(&v);
maybe Some(v) = foo(&v) else { bar() };
```

Further design discussion is left to an RFC, or the linked issue.

6153d3cbe6 Auto merge of #101212 - eholk:dyn-star, r=compiler-errors
Initial implementation of dyn*

This PR adds extremely basic and incomplete support for [dyn*](https://smallcultfollowing.com/babysteps//blog/2022/03/29/dyn-can-we-make-dyn-sized/). The goal is to get something in tree behind a flag to make collaboration easier, and also to make sure the implementation so far is not unreasonable. This PR does quite a few things:

* Introduce `dyn_star` feature flag
* Adds parsing for `dyn* Trait` types
* Defines `dyn* Trait` as a sized type
* Adds support for explicit casts, like `42usize as dyn* Debug`
  * Including const evaluation of such casts
* Adds codegen for drop glue so things are cleaned up properly when a `dyn* Trait` object goes out of scope
* Adds codegen for method calls, at least for methods that take `&self`

Quite a bit is still missing, but this gives us a starting point. Note that this is never intended to become stable surface syntax for Rust, but rather `dyn*` is planned to be used as an implementation detail for async functions in dyn traits.

Joint work with `@nikomatsakis` and `@compiler-errors.`

Shrink span for bindings with subpatterns.

Bindings with nested patterns (`binding @ pat` syntax) currently point to the full pattern. This PR proposes to shrink the span to stop before the ````@`.``` This makes the diagnostics for move/mutability conflicts clearer, as they not point to the `binding` only, instead of the full pat.

`Builder::expr_into_pattern` has a single call site. Currently the
`pattern` argument at the call site is always cloned.

This commit changes things so that we instead do a clone within
`expr_into_pattern`, but only if the pattern has the
`PatKind::AscribeUserType` kind, and we only clone the annotation within
the pattern instead of the entire pattern.

053874eecc Clean up THIR patterns.
`thir::Pat::kind` is a `Box<PatKind>`, which doesn't follow the usual
pattern in AST/HIR/THIR which is that the "kind" enum for a node is
stored inline within the parent struct.

This commit makes the `PatKind` directly inline within the `Pat`. This
requires using `Box<Pat>` in all the types that hold a `Pat.

Ideally, `Pat` would be stored in `Thir` like `Expr` and `Stmt` and
referred to with a `PatId` rather than `Box<Pat>`. But this is hard to
do because lots of `Pat`s get created after the destruction of the `Cx`
that does normal THIR building. But this does get us a step closer to
`PatId`, because all the `Box<Pat>` occurrences would be replaced with
`PatId` if `PatId` ever happened.

At 128 bytes, `Pat` is large. Subsequent commits will shrink it.

Since the refactoring in #98930, it is possible to borrow the basic blocks

Replace unnecessary `Body::basic_blocks()` method with a direct field access,

never consider unsafe blocks unused if they would be required with deny(unsafe_op_in_unsafe_fn)

Judging from https://github.com/rust-lang/rust/issues/71668#issuecomment-1200317370 the consensus nowadays seems to be that we should never consider an unsafe block unused if it was required with `deny(unsafe_op_in_unsafe_fn)`, no matter whether that lint is actually enabled or not. So let's adjust rustc accordingly.

Deeply deny fn and raw ptrs in const generics

I think this is right -- just because we wrap a fn ptr in a wrapper type does not mean we should allow it in a const parameter.

We now reject both of these in the same way:

```
#![feature(adt_const_params)]
#[derive(Eq, PartialEq)]
struct Wrapper();
fn foo<const W: Wrapper>() {}
fn foo2<const F: fn()>() {}
```

This does regress one test (`src/test/ui/consts/refs_check_const_eq-issue-88384.stderr`), but I'm not sure it should've passed in the first place.

a422b42159 don't allow ZST in ScalarInt
There are several indications that we should not ZST as a ScalarInt:
- We had two ways to have ZST valtrees, either an empty `Branch` or a `Leaf` with a ZST in it.
  `ValTree::zst()` used the former, but the latter could possibly arise as well.
- Likewise, the interpreter had `Immediate::Uninit` and `Immediate::Scalar(Scalar::ZST)`.
- LLVM codegen already had to special-case ZST ScalarInt.

So instead add new ZST variants to those types that did not have other variants
which could be used for this purpose.

c9dd1d9983 Make MIR basic blocks field public
This makes it possible to mutably borrow different fields of the MIR
body without resorting to methods like `basic_blocks_local_decls_mut_and_var_debug_info`.

To preserve validity of control flow graph caches in the presence of
modifications, a new struct `BasicBlocks` wraps together basic blocks
and control flow graph caches.

The `BasicBlocks` dereferences to `IndexVec<BasicBlock, BasicBlockData>`.
On the other hand a mutable access requires explicit `as_mut()` call.

lints: mostly translatable diagnostics

As lints are created slightly differently than other diagnostics, intended to try make them translatable first and then look into the applicability of diagnostic structs but ended up just making most of the diagnostics in the crate translatable (which will still be useful if I do make a lot of them structs later anyway).

Rollup merge of #95953 - JakobDegen:repeat-leak, r=oli-obk
Modify MIR building to drop repeat expressions with length zero

Closes #74836 .

Previously, when a user wrote `[foo; 0]` we used to simply leak `foo`. The goal is to fix that. This PR changes MIR building to make `[foo; 0]` equivalent to `{ drop(foo); [] }` in all cases. Of course, this is a breaking change (see below). A crater run did not indicate any regressions though, and given that the previous behavior was almost definitely not what any user wanted, it seems unlikely that anyone was relying on this.

Note that const generics are in general unaffected by this. Inserting the extra `drop` is only meaningful/necessary when `foo` is of a non-`Copy` type, and array repeat expressions with const generic repetition count must always be `Copy`.

Besides the obvious change to behavior associated with the additional drop, there are three categories of examples where this also changes observable behavior. In all of these cases, the new behavior is consistent with what you would get by replacing `[foo; 0]` with `{ drop(foo); [] }`. As such, none of these give the user new powers to express more things.

**No longer allowed in const (breaking)**:

```rust
const _: [String; 0] = [String::new(); 0];
```

This compiles on stable today. Because we now introduce the drop of `String`, this no longer compiles as `String` may not be dropped in a const context.

**Reduced dataflow (non-breaking)**:

```rust
let mut x: i32 = 0;
let r = &x;
let a = [r; 0];
x = 5;
let _b = a;
```

Borrowck rejects this code on stable because it believes there is dataflow between `a` and `r`, and so the lifetime of `r` has to extend to the last statement. This change removes the dataflow and the above code is allowed to compile.

**More const promotion (non-breaking)**:

```rust
let _v: &'static [String; 0] = &[String::new(); 0];
```

This does not compile today because `String` having drop glue keeps it from being const promoted (despite that drop glue never being executed). After this change, this is allowed to compile.

### Alternatives

A previous attempt at this tried to reduce breakage by various tricks. This is still a possibility, but given that crater showed no regressions it seems unclear why we would want to introduce this complexity.

Disallowing `[foo; 0]` completely is also an option, but obviously this is more of a breaking change. I do not know how often this is actually used though.

correctly deal with user type ascriptions in pat

supersedes #93856

`thir::PatKind::AscribeUserType` previously resulted in `CanonicalUserTypeAnnotations` where the inferred type already had a subtyping relation according to `variance` to the `user_ty`.

The bug can pretty much be summarized as follows:

- during mir building
  - `user_ty -> inferred_ty`: considers variance
  - `StatementKind::AscribeUserType`: `inferred_ty` is the type of the place, so no variance needed
- during mir borrowck
  - `user_ty -> inferred_ty`: does not consider variance
  - `StatementKind::AscribeUserType`: applies variance

This mostly worked fine. The lifetimes in `inferred_ty` were only bound by its relation to `user_ty` and to the `place` of `StatementKind::AscribeUserType`, so it doesn't matter where exactly the subtyping happens.

It does however matter when having higher ranked subtying. At this point the place where the subtyping happens is forced, causing this mismatch between building and borrowck to result in unintended errors.

cc #96514 which is pretty much the same issue

It's not completely clear yet whether to move everything to the same time of binder in rustc or add `Param` and `ReEarlyBound` in Chalk.

Either way, tracking when we have or haven't already substituted out these in rustc can be helpful.

As a first step, I'm just adding a `EarlyBinder` newtype that is required to call `subst`. I also add a couple "transparent" `bound_*` wrappers around a couple query that are often immediately substituted.

don't encode only locally used attrs

Part of https://github.com/rust-lang/compiler-team/issues/505.

We now filter builtin attributes before encoding them in the crate metadata in case they should only be used in the local crate. To prevent accidental misuse `get_attrs` now requires the caller to state which attribute they are interested in. For places where that isn't trivially possible, I've added a method `fn get_attrs_unchecked` which I intend to remove in a followup PR.

After this pull request landed, we can then slowly move all attributes to only be used in the local crate while being certain that we don't accidentally try to access them from extern crates.

574830f573 Auto merge of #96094 - Elliot-Roberts:fix_doctests, r=compiler-errors
Begin fixing all the broken doctests in `compiler/`

Begins to fix #95994.
All of them pass now but 24 of them I've marked with `ignore HELP (<explanation>)` (asking for help) as I'm unsure how to get them to work / if we should leave them as they are.
There are also a few that I marked `ignore` that could maybe be made to work but seem less important.
Each `ignore` has a rough "reason" for ignoring after it parentheses, with

- `(pseudo-rust)` meaning "mostly rust-like but contains foreign syntax"
- `(illustrative)` a somewhat catchall for either a fragment of rust that doesn't stand on its own (like a lone type), or abbreviated rust with ellipses and undeclared types that would get too cluttered if made compile-worthy.
- `(not-rust)` stuff that isn't rust but benefits from the syntax highlighting, like MIR.
- `(internal)` uses `rustc_*` code which would be difficult to make work with the testing setup.

Those reason notes are a bit inconsistently applied and messy though. If that's important I can go through them again and try a more principled approach. When I run `rg '```ignore \(' .` on the repo, there look to be lots of different conventions other people have used for this sort of thing. I could try unifying them all if that would be helpful.

I'm not sure if there was a better existing way to do this but I wrote my own script to help me run all the doctests and wade through the output. If that would be useful to anyone else, I put it here: https://github.com/Elliot-Roberts/rust_doctest_fixing_tool

Only crate root def-ids don't have a parent, and in majority of cases the argument of `DefIdTree::parent` cannot be a crate root.
So we now panic by default in `parent` and introduce a new non-panicing function `opt_parent` for cases where the argument can be a crate root.

Same applies to `local_parent`/`opt_local_parent`.

Check if call return type is visibly uninhabited when building MIR

The main motivation behind the change is to expose information about diverging
calls to the generator transform and match the precision of drop range tracking
which already understands that call expressions with visibly uninhabited types
diverges.

This change should also accept strictly more programs than before. That is
programs that were previously rejected due to errors raised by control-flow
sensitive checks in a code that is no longer considered reachable.

080d5452e1 Auto merge of #94468 - Amanieu:global_asm_sym, r=nagisa
Implement sym operands for global_asm!

Tracking issue: #93333

This PR is pretty much a complete rewrite of `sym` operand support for inline assembly so that the same implementation can be shared by `asm!` and `global_asm!`. The main changes are:
- At the AST level, `sym` is represented as a special `InlineAsmSym` AST node containing a path instead of an `Expr`.
- At the HIR level, `sym` is split into `SymStatic` and `SymFn` depending on whether the path resolves to a static during AST lowering (defaults to `SynFn` if `get_early_res` fails).
  - `SymFn` is just an `AnonConst`. It runs through typeck and we just collect the resulting type at the end. An error is emitted if the type is not a `FnDef`.
  - `SymStatic` directly holds a path and the `DefId` of the `static` that it is pointing to.
- The representation at the MIR level is mostly unchanged. There is a minor change to THIR where `SymFn` is a constant instead of an expression.
- At the codegen level we need to apply the target's symbol mangling to the result of `tcx.symbol_name()` depending on the target. This is done by calling the LLVM name mangler, which handles all of the details.
  - On Mach-O, all symbols have a leading underscore.
  - On x86 Windows, different mangling is used for cdecl, stdcall, fastcall and vectorcall.
  - No mangling is needed on other platforms.

Use mir constant in thir instead of ty::Const

This is blocked on https://github.com/rust-lang/rust/pull/94059 (does include its changes, the first two commits in this PR correspond to those changes) and https://github.com/rust-lang/rust/pull/93800 being reinstated (which had to be reverted). Mainly opening since `@lcnr` offered to give some feedback and maybe also for a perf-run (if necessary).

This currently contains a lot of duplication since some of the logic of `ty::Const` had to be copied to `mir::ConstantKind`, but with the introduction of valtrees a lot of that functionality will disappear from `ty::Const`.

Only the last commit contains changes that need to be reviewed here. Did leave some `FIXME` comments regarding future implementation decisions and some things that might be incorrectly implemented.

safely `transmute<&List<Ty<'tcx>>, &List<GenericArg<'tcx>>>`

This PR has 3 relevant steps which are is split in distinct commits.

The first commit now interns `List<Ty<'tcx>>` and `List<GenericArg<'tcx>>` together, potentially reusing memory while allowing free conversions between these two using `List<Ty<'tcx>>::as_substs()` and `SubstsRef<'tcx>::try_as_type_list()`.

Using this, we then use `&'tcx List<Ty<'tcx>>` instead of a `SubstsRef<'tcx>` for tuple fields, simplifying a bunch of code.

Finally, as tuple fields and other generic arguments now use a different `TypeFoldable<'tcx>` impl, we optimize the impl for `List<Ty<'tcx>>` improving perf by slightly less than 1% in tuple heavy benchmarks.

This PR was likely responsible for a relatively large regression in

bringing that builder into the pool of the slowest builders we currently have.

This seems to be limited to the alt builder due to needing parallel-compiler

Frank Steffahn
8f8689fb31 Improve unused_unsafe lint
Main motivation: Fixes some issues with the current behavior. This PR is
more-or-less completely re-implementing the unused_unsafe lint; it’s also only
done in the MIR-version of the lint, the set of tests for the `-Zthir-unsafeck`
version no longer succeeds (and is thus disabled, see `lint-unused-unsafe.rs`).

On current nightly,
```rs
unsafe fn unsf() {}
fn inner_ignored() {
    unsafe {
        #[allow(unused_unsafe)]
        unsafe {
            unsf()
        }
    }
}
```

doesn’t create any warnings. This situation is not unrealistic to come by, the
inner `unsafe` block could e.g. come from a macro. Actually, this PR even
includes removal of one unused `unsafe` in the standard library that was missed
in a similar situation. (The inner `unsafe` coming from an external macro hides
    the warning, too.)

The reason behind this problem is how the check currently works:
* While generating MIR, it already skips nested unsafe blocks (i.e. unsafe
  nested in other unsafe) so that the inner one is always the one considered
  unused
* To differentiate the cases of no unsafe operations inside the `unsafe` vs.
  a surrounding `unsafe` block, there’s some ad-hoc magic walking up the HIR to
  look for surrounding used `unsafe` blocks.

There’s a lot of problems with this approach besides the one presented above.
E.g. the MIR-building uses checks for `unsafe_op_in_unsafe_fn` lint to decide
early whether or not `unsafe` blocks in an `unsafe fn` are redundant and ought
to be removed.
```rs
unsafe fn granular_disallow_op_in_unsafe_fn() {
    unsafe {
        #[deny(unsafe_op_in_unsafe_fn)]
        {
            unsf();
        }
    }
}
```
```
Here, the intermediate `unsafe` was ignored, even though it contains a unsafe
operation that is not allowed to happen in an `unsafe fn` without an additional `unsafe` block.
Also closures were problematic and the workaround/algorithms used on current
nightly didn’t work properly. (I skipped trying to fully understand what it was
supposed to do, because this PR uses a completely different approach.)
```rs
fn nested() {
    unsafe {
        unsafe { unsf() }
    }
}
```
```

vs

```rs
fn nested() {
    let _ = || unsafe {
        let _ = || unsafe { unsf() };
    };
}
```
```
warning: unnecessary `unsafe` block
   |
10 |         let _ = || unsafe { unsf() };
   |                    ^^^^^^ unnecessary `unsafe` block
```

*note that this warning kind-of suggests that **both** unsafe blocks are redundant*

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I also dislike the fact that it always suggests keeping the outermost `unsafe`.
E.g. for
```rs
fn granularity() {
    unsafe {
        unsafe { unsf() }
        unsafe { unsf() }
        unsafe { unsf() }
    }
}
```
I prefer if `rustc` suggests removing the more-course outer-level `unsafe`
instead of the fine-grained inner `unsafe` blocks, which it currently does on nightly:
```
warning: unnecessary `unsafe` block
  --> src/main.rs:10:9
   |
9  |     unsafe {
   |     ------ because it's nested under this `unsafe` block
10 |         unsafe { unsf() }
   |         ^^^^^^ unnecessary `unsafe` block
   |
   = note: `#[warn(unused_unsafe)]` on by default
warning: unnecessary `unsafe` block
  --> src/main.rs:11:9
   |
9  |     unsafe {
   |     ------ because it's nested under this `unsafe` block
10 |         unsafe { unsf() }
11 |         unsafe { unsf() }
   |         ^^^^^^ unnecessary `unsafe` block
warning: unnecessary `unsafe` block
  --> src/main.rs:12:9
   |
9  |     unsafe {
   |     ------ because it's nested under this `unsafe` block
...
12 |         unsafe { unsf() }
   |         ^^^^^^ unnecessary `unsafe` block
```

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Needless to say, this PR addresses all these points. For context, as far as my
understanding goes, the main advantage of skipping inner unsafe blocks was that
a test case like
```rs
fn top_level_used() {
    unsafe {
        unsf();
        unsafe { unsf() }
        unsafe { unsf() }
        unsafe { unsf() }
    }
}
```
should generate some warning because there’s redundant nested `unsafe`, however
every single `unsafe` block _does_ contain some statement that uses it. Of course
this PR doesn’t aim change the warnings on this kind of code example, because
the current behavior, warning on all the inner `unsafe` blocks, makes sense in this case.

As mentioned, during MIR building all the unsafe blocks *are* kept now, and usage
is attributed to them. The way to still generate a warning like
```
warning: unnecessary `unsafe` block
  --> src/main.rs:11:9
   |
9  |     unsafe {
   |     ------ because it's nested under this `unsafe` block
10 |         unsf();
11 |         unsafe { unsf() }
   |         ^^^^^^ unnecessary `unsafe` block
   |
   = note: `#[warn(unused_unsafe)]` on by default
warning: unnecessary `unsafe` block
  --> src/main.rs:12:9
   |
9  |     unsafe {
   |     ------ because it's nested under this `unsafe` block
...
12 |         unsafe { unsf() }
   |         ^^^^^^ unnecessary `unsafe` block
warning: unnecessary `unsafe` block
  --> src/main.rs:13:9
   |
9  |     unsafe {
   |     ------ because it's nested under this `unsafe` block
...
13 |         unsafe { unsf() }
   |         ^^^^^^ unnecessary `unsafe` block
```

in this case is by emitting a `unused_unsafe` warning for all of the `unsafe`
blocks that are _within a **used** unsafe block_.

The previous code had a little HIR traversal already anyways to collect a set of
all the unsafe blocks (in order to afterwards determine which ones are unused
afterwards). This PR uses such a traversal to do additional things including logic
like _always_ warn for an `unsafe` block that’s inside of another **used**
unsafe block. The traversal is expanded to include nested closures in the same go,
this simplifies a lot of things.

The whole logic around `unsafe_op_in_unsafe_fn` is a little complicated, there’s
some test cases of corner-cases in this PR. (The implementation involves
differentiating between whether a used unsafe block was used exclusively by
operations where `allow(unsafe_op_in_unsafe_fn)` was active.) The main goal was
to make sure that code should compile successfully if all the `unused_unsafe`-warnings
are addressed _simultaneously_ (by removing the respective `unsafe` blocks)
no matter how complicated the patterns of `unsafe_op_in_unsafe_fn` being
disallowed and allowed throughout the function are.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

One noteworthy design decision I took here: An `unsafe` block
with `allow(unused_unsafe)` **is considered used** for the purposes of
linting about redundant contained unsafe blocks. So while
```rs
fn granularity() {
    unsafe { //~ ERROR: unnecessary `unsafe` block
        unsafe { unsf() }
        unsafe { unsf() }
        unsafe { unsf() }
    }
}
```
warns for the outer `unsafe` block,
```rs
fn top_level_ignored() {
    #[allow(unused_unsafe)]
    unsafe {
        #[deny(unused_unsafe)]
        {
            unsafe { unsf() } //~ ERROR: unnecessary `unsafe` block
            unsafe { unsf() } //~ ERROR: unnecessary `unsafe` block
            unsafe { unsf() } //~ ERROR: unnecessary `unsafe` block
        }
    }
}
```
warns on the inner ones.

Specifically, rename the `Const` struct as `ConstS` and re-introduce `Const` as
this:
```
pub struct Const<'tcx>(&'tcx Interned<ConstS>);
```
This now matches `Ty` and `Predicate` more closely, including using
pointer-based `eq` and `hash`.

Notable changes:
- `mk_const` now takes a `ConstS`.
- `Const` was copy, despite being 48 bytes. Now `ConstS` is not, so need a
  we need separate arena for it, because we can't use the `Dropless` one any
  more.
- Many `&'tcx Const<'tcx>`/`&Const<'tcx>` to `Const<'tcx>` changes
- Many `ct.ty` to `ct.ty()` and `ct.val` to `ct.val()` changes.
- Lots of tedious sigil fiddling.

Specifically, change `Region` from this:
```
pub type Region<'tcx> = &'tcx RegionKind;
```
to this:
```
pub struct Region<'tcx>(&'tcx Interned<RegionKind>);
```

This now matches `Ty` and `Predicate` more closely.

Things to note
- Regions have always been interned, but we haven't been using pointer-based
  `Eq` and `Hash`. This is now happening.
- I chose to impl `Deref` for `Region` because it makes pattern matching a lot
  nicer, and `Region` can be viewed as just a smart wrapper for `RegionKind`.
- Various methods are moved from `RegionKind` to `Region`.
- There is a lot of tedious sigil changes.
- A couple of types like `HighlightBuilder`, `RegionHighlightMode` now have a
  `'tcx` lifetime because they hold a `Ty<'tcx>`, so they can call `mk_region`.
- A couple of test outputs change slightly, I'm not sure why, but the new
  outputs are a little better.

e9a0c429c5 Overhaul TyS and Ty.
Specifically, change `Ty` from this:
```
pub type Ty<'tcx> = &'tcx TyS<'tcx>;
```
to this
```
pub struct Ty<'tcx>(Interned<'tcx, TyS<'tcx>>);
```
There are two benefits to this.
- It's now a first class type, so we can define methods on it. This
  means we can move a lot of methods away from `TyS`, leaving `TyS` as a
  barely-used type, which is appropriate given that it's not meant to
  be used directly.
- The uniqueness requirement is now explicit, via the `Interned` type.
  E.g. the pointer-based `Eq` and `Hash` comes from `Interned`, rather
  than via `TyS`, which wasn't obvious at all.

Much of this commit is boring churn. The interesting changes are in
these files:
- compiler/rustc_middle/src/arena.rs
- compiler/rustc_middle/src/mir/visit.rs
- compiler/rustc_middle/src/ty/context.rs
- compiler/rustc_middle/src/ty/mod.rs

Specifically:
- Most mentions of `TyS` are removed. It's very much a dumb struct now;
  `Ty` has all the smarts.
- `TyS` now has `crate` visibility instead of `pub`.
- `TyS::make_for_test` is removed in favour of the static `BOOL_TY`,
  which just works better with the new structure.
- The `Eq`/`Ord`/`Hash` impls are removed from `TyS`. `Interned`s impls
  of `Eq`/`Hash` now suffice. `Ord` is now partly on `Interned`
  (pointer-based, for the `Equal` case) and partly on `TyS`
  (contents-based, for the other cases).
- There are many tedious sigil adjustments, i.e. adding or removing `*`
  or `&`. They seem to be unavoidable.

Lazy type-alias-impl-trait

Previously opaque types were processed by

1. replacing all mentions of them with inference variables
2. memorizing these inference variables in a side-table
3. at the end of typeck, resolve the inference variables in the side table and use the resolved type as the hidden type of the opaque type

This worked okayish for `impl Trait` in return position, but required lots of roundabout type inference hacks and processing.

This PR instead stops this process of replacing opaque types with inference variables, and just keeps the opaque types around.
Whenever an opaque type `O` is compared with another type `T`, we make the comparison succeed and record `T` as the hidden type. If `O` is compared to `U` while there is a recorded hidden type for it, we grab the recorded type (`T`) and compare that against `U`. This makes implementing

* https://github.com/rust-lang/rfcs/pull/2515

much simpler (previous attempts on the inference based scheme were very prone to ICEs and general misbehaviour that was not explainable except by random implementation defined oddities).

10b722cc79 Ignore unwinding edges when checking for unconditional recursion
The unconditional recursion lint determines if all execution paths
eventually lead to a self-recursive call.

The implementation always follows unwinding edges which limits its
practical utility. For example, it would not lint function `f` because a
call to `g` might unwind. It also wouldn't lint function `h` because an
overflow check preceding the self-recursive call might unwind:

```rust
pub fn f() {
    g();
    f();
}
pub fn g() { /* ... */ }
pub fn h(a: usize) {
  h(a + 1);
}
```

To avoid the issue, assume that terminators that might continue
execution along non-unwinding edges do so.

Replace `NestedVisitorMap` with generic `NestedFilter`

This is an attempt to make the `intravisit::Visitor` API simpler and "more const" with regard to nested visiting.

With this change, `intravisit::Visitor` does not visit nested things by default, unless you specify `type NestedFilter = nested_filter::OnlyBodies` (or `All`). `nested_visit_map` returns `Self::Map` instead of `NestedVisitorMap<Self::Map>`. It panics by default (unreachable if `type NestedFilter` is omitted).

One somewhat trixty thing here is that `nested_filter::{OnlyBodies, All}` live in `rustc_middle` so that they may have `type Map = map::Map` and so that `impl Visitor`s never need to specify `type Map` - it has a default of `Self::NestedFilter::Map`.

Store a DefId instead of an AdtDef in AggregateKind::Adt
The `AggregateKind` enum ends up in the final mir `Body`. Currently,
any changes to `AdtDef` (regardless of how significant they are)
will legitimately cause the overall result of `optimized_mir` to change,
invalidating any codegen re-use involving that mir.

This will get worse once we start hashing the `Span` inside `FieldDef`
(which is itself contained in `AdtDef`).

To try to reduce these kinds of invalidations, this commit changes
`AggregateKind::Adt` to store just the `DefId`, instead of the full
`AdtDef`. This allows the result of `optimized_mir` to be unchanged
if the `AdtDef` changes in a way that doesn't actually affect any
of the MIR we build.

Implement let-else type annotations natively

Tracking issue: #87335

Fixes #89688, fixes #89807, edit: fixes #89960 as well

As explained in https://github.com/rust-lang/rust/issues/89688#issuecomment-940405082, the previous desugaring moved the let-else scrutinee into a dummy variable, which meant if you wanted to refer to it again in the else block, it had moved.

This introduces a new hir type, ~~`hir::LetExpr`~~ `hir::Let`, which takes over all the fields of `hir::ExprKind::Let(...)` and adds an optional type annotation. The `hir::Let` is then treated like a `hir::Local` when type checking a function body, specifically:

* `GatherLocalsVisitor` overrides a new `Visitor::visit_let_expr` and does pretty much exactly what it does for `visit_local`, assigning a local type to the `hir::Let` ~~(they could be deduplicated but they are right next to each other, so at least we know they're the same)~~
* It reuses the code in `check_decl_local` to typecheck the `hir::Let`, simply returning 'bool' for the expression type after doing that.

* ~~`FnCtxt::check_expr_let` passes this local type in to `demand_scrutinee_type`, and then imitates check_decl_local's pattern checking~~
* ~~`demand_scrutinee_type` (the blindest change for me, please give this extra scrutiny) uses this local type instead of of creating a new one~~
    * ~~Just realised the `check_expr_with_needs` was passing NoExpectation further down, need to pass the type there too. And apparently this Expectation API already exists.~~

Some other misc notes:

* ~~Is the clippy code supposed to be autoformatted? I tried not to give huge diffs but maybe some rustfmt changes simply haven't hit it yet.~~
* in `rustc_ast_lowering/src/block.rs`, I noticed some existing `self.alias_attrs()` calls in `LoweringContext::lower_stmts` seem to be copying attributes from the lowered locals/etc to the statements. Is that right? I'm new at this, I don't know.

rustc_mir_build: reorder bindings

No functional changes intended.

I'm playing around with building compiler components using nightly rust
(2021-11-02) in a non-standard way. I encountered the following error while
trying to build rustc_mir_build:

```
error[E0597]: `wildcard` does not live long enough
    --> rust/src/nightly/compiler/rustc_mir_build/src/build/matches/mod.rs:1767:82
     |
1767 |         let mut otherwise_candidate = Candidate::new(expr_place_builder.clone(), &wildcard, false);
     |                                                                                  ^^^^^^^^^ borrowed value does not live long enough
...
1799 |     }
     |     -
     |     |
     |     `wildcard` dropped here while still borrowed
     |     borrow might be used here, when `guard_candidate` is dropped and runs the destructor for type `Candidate<'_, '_>`
     |
     = note: values in a scope are dropped in the opposite order they are defined
```

I believe this flags an issue that may become an error in the future.
Swapping the order of `wildcard` and `guard_candidate` resolves it.

These commits speed up the `match-stress-enum` benchmark, which is very artificial, but the changes are simple enough that it's probably worth doing.
