ff49733274 std: Stabilize library APIs for 1.5
This commit stabilizes and deprecates library APIs whose FCP has closed in the
last cycle, specifically:

Stabilized APIs:

* `fs::canonicalize`
* `Path::{metadata, symlink_metadata, canonicalize, read_link, read_dir, exists,
   is_file, is_dir}` - all moved to inherent methods from the `PathExt` trait.
* `Formatter::fill`
* `Formatter::width`
* `Formatter::precision`
* `Formatter::sign_plus`
* `Formatter::sign_minus`
* `Formatter::alternate`
* `Formatter::sign_aware_zero_pad`
* `string::ParseError`
* `Utf8Error::valid_up_to`
* `Iterator::{cmp, partial_cmp, eq, ne, lt, le, gt, ge}`
* `<[T]>::split_{first,last}{,_mut}`
* `Condvar::wait_timeout` - note that `wait_timeout_ms` is not yet deprecated
  but will be once 1.5 is released.
* `str::{R,}MatchIndices`
* `str::{r,}match_indices`
* `char::from_u32_unchecked`
* `VecDeque::insert`
* `VecDeque::shrink_to_fit`
* `VecDeque::as_slices`
* `VecDeque::as_mut_slices`
* `VecDeque::swap_remove_front` - (renamed from `swap_front_remove`)
* `VecDeque::swap_remove_back` - (renamed from `swap_back_remove`)
* `Vec::resize`
* `str::slice_mut_unchecked`
* `FileTypeExt`
* `FileTypeExt::{is_block_device, is_char_device, is_fifo, is_socket}`
* `BinaryHeap::from` - `from_vec` deprecated in favor of this
* `BinaryHeap::into_vec` - plus a `Into` impl
* `BinaryHeap::into_sorted_vec`

Deprecated APIs

* `slice::ref_slice`
* `slice::mut_ref_slice`
* `iter::{range_inclusive, RangeInclusive}`
* `std::dynamic_lib`

20e1ea2dd8 Remove the Modifier and Decorator kinds of syntax extensions.
This is a [breaking-change] for syntax extension authors. The fix is to use MultiModifier or MultiDecorator, which have the same functionality but are more flexible. Users of syntax extensions are unaffected.

fe9cef7dae Auto merge of #27983 - barosl:respect-color, r=nrc
Currently, `early_error` and `early_warn` in `librustc::session` always use `ColorConfig::Auto`. Modify them to follow the color configuration set by the `--color` option.

As colored output is also printed during the early stage, parsing the `--color` option should be done as early as possible. However, there are still some cases when the output needs to be colored before knowing the exact color settings. In these cases, it will be defaulted to `ColorConfig::Auto`, which is the same as before.

Fixes #27879.

e364f0eb5a feature gate cfg(target_feature).
This is theoretically a breaking change, but GitHub search turns up no
uses of it, and most non-built-in cfg's are passed via cargo features,
which look like `feature = "..."`, and hence can't overlap.

c23a9d42ea Auto merge of #25387 - eddyb:syn-file-loader, r=nikomatsakis
This allows compiling entire crates from memory or preprocessing source files before they are tokenized.

Minor API refactoring included, which is a [breaking-change] for libsyntax users:
* `ParseSess::{next_node_id, reserve_node_ids}` moved to rustc's `Session`
* `new_parse_sess` -> `ParseSess::new`
* `new_parse_sess_special_handler` -> `ParseSess::with_span_handler`
* `mk_span_handler` -> `SpanHandler::new`
* `default_handler` -> `Handler::new`
* `mk_handler` -> `Handler::with_emitter`
* `string_to_filemap(sess source, path)` -> `sess.codemap().new_filemap(path, source)`

247842b741 test: Fix some tests to run with musl
There were a few test cases to fix:

* Dynamic libraries are not supported with MUSL right now, so all of those
  related test which force or require dylibs are ignored.
* Looks like the default stack for MUSL is smaller than glibc, so a few stack
  allocations in benchmarks were boxed up (shouldn't have a perf impact).
* Some small linkage tweaks here and there
* Out-of-stack detection does not currently work with MUSL

2d9831dea5 Interpolate AST nodes in quasiquote.
This changes the `ToTokens` implementations for expressions, statements,
etc. with almost-trivial ones that produce `Interpolated(*Nt(...))`
pseudo-tokens. In this way, quasiquote now works the same way as macros
do: already-parsed AST fragments are used as-is, not reparsed.

The `ToSource` trait is removed. Quasiquote no longer involves
pretty-printing at all, which removes the need for the
`encode_with_hygiene` hack. All associated machinery is removed.

A new `Nonterminal` is added, NtArm, which the parser now interpolates.
This is just for quasiquote, not macros (although it could be in the
future).

`ToTokens` is no longer implemented for `Arg` (although this could be
added again) and `Generics` (which I don't think makes sense).

This breaks any compiler extensions that relied on the ability of
`ToTokens` to turn AST fragments back into inspectable token trees. For
this reason, this closes #16987.

As such, this is a [breaking-change].

f7962d2dae Ignore cross-compilation in some fulldeps tests.
These tests fail, in general, for cross-compilation, because they require
the rustc crates to exist for the target, and they don't. We can't compile
them for the target unless we also compile LLVM for the target (we don't).

Android is a subset of cross-compilation.

The other fulldeps tests, on the other hand, work fine for
cross-compilation, and in fact, are verifying that rustc correctly searches
for a host plugin crate, not a target plugin crate.

5daee19eca Rollup merge of #24212 - alexcrichton:destabilize-begin-unwind, r=huonw
Now that we have a `#[allow_internal_unstable]` attribute for macros there's no
need for these two `begin_unwind` functions to be stable. Right now the `panic!`
interface is the only one we wish to stabilize, so remove the stability markers
from these functions.

While this is a breaking change, it is highly unlikely to break any actual code.
It is recommended to use the `panic!` macro instead if it breaks explicit calls
into `std::rt`.

b2bcb7229a Work towards a non-panicing parser (libsyntax)
- Functions in parser.rs return PResult<> rather than panicing
- Other functions in libsyntax call panic! explicitly for now if they rely on panicing behaviour.
- 'panictry!' macro added as scaffolding while converting panicing functions.
  (This does the same as 'unwrap()' but is easier to grep for and turn into try!())
- Leaves panicing wrappers for the following functions so that the
  quote_* macros behave the same:
  - parse_expr, parse_item, parse_pat, parse_arm, parse_ty, parse_stmt

491054f08e Make #[derive(Anything)] into sugar for #[derive_Anything]
This is a hack, but I don't think we can do much better as long as `derive` is
running at the syntax expansion phase.

If the custom_derive feature gate is enabled, this works with user-defined
traits and syntax extensions. Without the gate, you can't use e.g. #[derive_Clone]
directly, so this does not change the stable language.

This commit also cleans up the deriving code somewhat, and forbids some
previously-meaningless attribute syntax. For this reason it's technically a

This commit deprecates the majority of std::old_io::fs in favor of std::fs and
its new functionality. Some functions remain non-deprecated but are now behind a
feature gate called `old_fs`. These functions will be deprecated once
suitable replacements have been implemented.

The compiler has been migrated to new `std::fs` and `std::path` APIs where
appropriate as part of this change.
