78a841810e librustc: Implement associated types behind a feature gate.
The implementation essentially desugars during type collection and AST
type conversion time into the parameter scheme we have now. Only fully
qualified names--e.g. `<T as Foo>::Bar`--are supported.

9907fa4acc librustc: Stop assuming that implementations and traits only contain
methods.

This paves the way to associated items by introducing an extra level of
abstraction ("impl-or-trait item") between traits/implementations and
methods. This new abstraction is encoded in the metadata and used
throughout the compiler where appropriate.

There are no functional changes; this is purely a refactoring.

7ec6df5f45 rustdoc: Fix cross-crate links to reexported items
Cross crate links can target items which are not rendered in the documentation.
If the item is reexported at a higher level, the destination of the link (a
concatenation of the fully qualified name) may actually lead to nowhere. This
fixes this problem by altering rustdoc to emit pages which redirect to the local
copy of the reexported structure.

c2e3aa37da rustdoc: Create anchor pages for primitive types
This commit adds support in rustdoc to recognize the `#[doc(primitive = "foo")]`
attribute. This attribute indicates that the current module is the "owner" of
the primitive type `foo`. For rustdoc, this means that the doc-comment for the
module is the doc-comment for the primitive type, plus a signal to all
downstream crates that hyperlinks for primitive types will be directed at the
crate containing the `#[doc]` directive.

Additionally, rustdoc will favor crates closest to the one being documented
which "implements the primitive type". For example, documentation of libcore
links to libcore for primitive types, but documentation for libstd and beyond
all links to libstd for primitive types.

This change involves no compiler modifications, it is purely a rustdoc change.
The landing pages for the primitive types primarily serve to show a list of
implemented traits for the primitive type itself.

The primitive types documented includes both strings and slices in a semi-ad-hoc
way, but in a way that should provide at least somewhat meaningful
documentation.

c746c503f0 rustdoc: Fill in external trait methods
This commit alters rustdoc to crawl the metadata of upstream libraries in order
to fill in default methods for traits implemented in downstream crates. This,
for example, documents the `insert` function on hash maps.

This is a fairly lossy extraction from the metadata. Documentation and
attributes are lost, but they aren't used anyway. Unfortunately, argument names
are also lost because they are not present in the metadata. Source links are
also lost because the spans are not serialized.

While not perfect, it appears that presenting this documentation through rustdoc
is much better than nothing, so I wanted to land this to allow iteration on it
later on.

ab92ea526d std: Modernize the local_data api
This commit brings the local_data api up to modern rust standards with a few key
improvements:

* The `pop` and `set` methods have been combined into one method, `replace`

* The `get_mut` method has been removed. All interior mutability should be done
  through `RefCell`.

* All functionality is now exposed as a method on the keys themselves. Instead
of importing std::local_data, you now use "key.replace()" and "key.get()".

* All closures have been removed in favor of RAII functionality. This means that
get() and get_mut() no long require closures, but rather return
Option<SmartPointer> where the smart pointer takes care of relinquishing the
borrow and also implements the necessary Deref traits

* The modify() function was removed to cut the local_data interface down to its
bare essentials (similarly to how RefCell removed set/get).

9d546d60c1 rustdoc: Display tuple structs correctly
The fields of tuple structs recently gained the ability to have privacy

of struct fields to allow tuple structs to have their private fields printed as
underscores.

f079c94f72 rustc: Remove matching on ~str from the language
The `~str` type is not long for this world as it will be superseded by the

Matching on `&str` will continue to work, in both a pre and post DST world.

bec7b766fb rustc: Move to FNV hashing for node/def ids
This leverages the new hashing framework and hashmap implementation to provide a
much speedier hashing algorithm for node ids and def ids. The hash algorithm
used is currentl FNV hashing, but it's quite easy to swap out.

I originally implemented hashing as the identity function, but this actually
ended up in slowing down rustc compiling libstd from 8s to 13s. I would suspect
that this is a result of a large number of collisions.

With FNV hashing, we get these timings (compiling with --no-trans, in seconds):

| | before | after |
|-----------|---------:|--------:|
| libstd | 8.324 | 6.703 |
| stdtest | 47.674 | 46.857 |
| libsyntax | 9.918 | 8.400 |

2a14e084cf Move std::{trie, hashmap} to libcollections
These two containers are indeed collections, so their place is in
libcollections, not in libstd. There will always be a hash map as part of the
standard distribution of Rust, but by moving it out of the standard library it
makes libstd that much more portable to more platforms and environments.

This conveniently also removes the stuttering of 'std::hashmap::HashMap',
although 'collections::HashMap' is only one character shorter.

968633b60a Replace crate usage with krate
This patch replaces all `crate` usage with `krate` before introducing the
new keyword. This ensures that after introducing the keyword, there
won't be any compilation errors.

krate might not be the most expressive substitution for crate but it's a
very close abbreviation for it. `module` was already used in several
places already.

1f7eb4f9aa make missing_doc lint respect the visibility rules
Previously, the `exported_items` set created by the privacy pass was
incomplete. Specifically, it did not include items that had been defined
at a private path but then `pub use`d at a public path. This commit
finds all crate exports during the privacy pass. Consequently, some code
in the reachable pass and in rustdoc is no longer necessary. This commit
then removes the separate `MissingDocLintVisitor` lint pass, opting to
check missing_doc lint in the same pass as the other lint checkers using
the visibility result computed by the privacy pass.

Fixes #9777.
