Allow specifying alignment for functions

Fixes #75072

This allows the user to specify alignment for functions, which can be useful for low level work where functions need to necessarily be aligned to a specific value.

I believe the error cases not covered in the match are caught earlier based on my testing so I had them just return `None`.

441dc3640a Remove (lots of) dead code
Found with https://github.com/est31/warnalyzer.

Dubious changes:
- Is anyone else using rustc_apfloat? I feel weird completely deleting
  x87 support.
- Maybe some of the dead code in rustc_data_structures, in case someone
  wants to use it in the future?
- Don't change rustc_serialize

  I plan to scrap most of the json module in the near future (see
  https://github.com/rust-lang/compiler-team/issues/418) and fixing the
  tests needed more work than I expected.

TODO: check if any of the comments on the deleted code should be kept.

e4e5db4e42 Add has_default to GenericParamDefKind::Const
This currently creates a field which is always false on GenericParamDefKind for future use when
consts are permitted to have defaults

Update const_generics:default locations

Previously just ignored them, now actually do something about them.

Fix using type check instead of value

Add parsing

This adds all the necessary changes to lower const-generics defaults from parsing.

Change P<Expr> to AnonConst

This matches the arguments passed to instantiations of const generics, and makes it specific to
just anonymous constants.

Rollup merge of #82217 - m-ou-se:edition-prelude, r=nikomatsakis
Edition-specific preludes

This changes `{std,core}::prelude` to export edition-specific preludes under `rust_2015`, `rust_2018` and `rust_2021`. (As suggested in https://github.com/rust-lang/rust/issues/51418#issuecomment-395630382.) For now they all just re-export `v1::*`, but this allows us to add things to the 2021edition prelude soon.

This also changes the compiler to make the automatically injected prelude import dependent on the selected edition.

df45c579de rustc_target: add "unwind" payloads to Abi
### Overview

    This commit begins the implementation work for RFC 2945. For more
    information, see the rendered RFC [1] and tracking issue [2].

    A boolean `unwind` payload is added to the `C`, `System`, `Stdcall`,
    and `Thiscall` variants, marking whether unwinding across FFI
    boundaries is acceptable. The cases where each of these variants'
    `unwind` member is true correspond with the `C-unwind`,
    `system-unwind`, `stdcall-unwind`, and `thiscall-unwind` ABI strings
    introduced in RFC 2945 [3].

 ### Feature Gate and Unstable Book

    This commit adds a `c_unwind` feature gate for the new ABI strings.
    Tests for this feature gate are included in `src/test/ui/c-unwind/`,
    which ensure that this feature gate works correctly for each of the
    new ABIs.

    A new language features entry in the unstable book is added as well.

 ### Further Work To Be Done

    This commit does not proceed to implement the new unwinding ABIs,
    and is intentionally scoped specifically to *defining* the ABIs and
    their feature flag.

 ### One Note on Test Churn

    This will lead to some test churn, in re-blessing hash tests, as the
    deleted comment in `src/librustc_target/spec/abi.rs` mentioned,
    because we can no longer guarantee the ordering of the `Abi`
    variants.

    While this is a downside, this decision was made bearing in mind
    that RFC 2945 states the following, in the "Other `unwind` Strings"
    section [3]:

    > More unwind variants of existing ABI strings may be introduced,
    > with the same semantics, without an additional RFC.

    Adding a new variant for each of these cases, rather than specifying
    a payload for a given ABI, would quickly become untenable, and make
    working with the `Abi` enum prone to mistakes.

    This approach encodes the unwinding information *into* a given ABI,
    to account for the future possibility of other `-unwind` ABI
    strings.

 ### Ignore Directives

    `ignore-*` directives are used in two of our `*-unwind` ABI test
    cases.

    Specifically, the `stdcall-unwind` and `thiscall-unwind` test cases
    ignore architectures that do not support `stdcall` and
    `thiscall`, respectively.

    These directives are cribbed from
    `src/test/ui/c-variadic/variadic-ffi-1.rs` for `stdcall`, and
    `src/test/ui/extern/extern-thiscall.rs` for `thiscall`.

    This would otherwise fail on some targets, see:
    fcf697f902

Rollup merge of #82682 - petrochenkov:cfgeval, r=Aaron1011
Implement built-in attribute macro `#[cfg_eval]` + some refactoring

This PR implements a built-in attribute macro `#[cfg_eval]` as it was suggested in https://github.com/rust-lang/rust/pull/79078 to avoid `#[derive()]` without arguments being abused as a way to configure input for other attributes.

The macro is used for eagerly expanding all `#[cfg]` and `#[cfg_attr]` attributes in its input ("fully configuring" the input).
The effect is identical to effect of `#[derive(Foo, Bar)]` which also fully configures its input before passing it to macros `Foo` and `Bar`, but unlike `#[derive]` `#[cfg_eval]` can be applied to any syntax nodes supporting macro attributes, not only certain items.

`cfg_eval` was the first name suggested in https://github.com/rust-lang/rust/pull/79078, but other alternatives are also possible, e.g. `cfg_expand`.

```rust
#[cfg_eval]
#[my_attr] // Receives `struct S {}` as input, the field is configured away by `#[cfg_eval]`
struct S {
    #[cfg(FALSE)]
    field: u8,
}
```

76c500ec6c Auto merge of #81635 - michaelwoerister:structured_def_path_hash, r=pnkfelix
Let a portion of DefPathHash uniquely identify the DefPath's crate.

This allows to directly map from a `DefPathHash` to the crate it originates from, without constructing side tables to do that mapping -- something that is useful for incremental compilation where we deal with `DefPathHash` instead of `DefId` a lot.

It also allows to reliably and cheaply check for `DefPathHash` collisions which allows the compiler to gracefully abort compilation instead of running into a subsequent ICE at some random place in the code.

The following new piece of documentation describes the most interesting aspects of the changes:

```rust
/// A `DefPathHash` is a fixed-size representation of a `DefPath` that is
/// stable across crate and compilation session boundaries. It consists of two
/// separate 64-bit hashes. The first uniquely identifies the crate this
/// `DefPathHash` originates from (see [StableCrateId]), and the second
/// uniquely identifies the corresponding `DefPath` within that crate. Together
/// they form a unique identifier within an entire crate graph.
///
/// There is a very small chance of hash collisions, which would mean that two
/// different `DefPath`s map to the same `DefPathHash`. Proceeding compilation
/// with such a hash collision would very probably lead to an ICE and, in the
/// worst case, to a silent mis-compilation. The compiler therefore actively
/// and exhaustively checks for such hash collisions and aborts compilation if
/// it finds one.
///
/// `DefPathHash` uses 64-bit hashes for both the crate-id part and the
/// crate-internal part, even though it is likely that there are many more
/// `LocalDefId`s in a single crate than there are individual crates in a crate
/// graph. Since we use the same number of bits in both cases, the collision
/// probability for the crate-local part will be quite a bit higher (though
/// still very small).
///
/// This imbalance is not by accident: A hash collision in the
/// crate-local part of a `DefPathHash` will be detected and reported while
/// compiling the crate in question. Such a collision does not depend on
/// outside factors and can be easily fixed by the crate maintainer (e.g. by
/// renaming the item in question or by bumping the crate version in a harmless
/// way).
///
/// A collision between crate-id hashes on the other hand is harder to fix
/// because it depends on the set of crates in the entire crate graph of a
/// compilation session. Again, using the same crate with a different version
/// number would fix the issue with a high probability -- but that might be
/// easier said then done if the crates in questions are dependencies of
/// third-party crates.
///
/// That being said, given a high quality hash function, the collision
/// probabilities in question are very small. For example, for a big crate like
/// `rustc_middle` (with ~50000 `LocalDefId`s as of the time of writing) there
/// is a probability of roughly 1 in 14,750,000,000 of a crate-internal
/// collision occurring. For a big crate graph with 1000 crates in it, there is
/// a probability of 1 in 36,890,000,000,000 of a `StableCrateId` collision.
```

Given the probabilities involved I hope that no one will ever actually see the error messages. Nonetheless, I'd be glad about some feedback on how to improve them. Should we create a GH issue describing the problem and possible solutions to point to? Or a page in the rustc book?

Rollup merge of #80723 - rylev:noop-lint-pass, r=estebank
Implement NOOP_METHOD_CALL lint

Implements the beginnings of https://github.com/rust-lang/lang-team/issues/67 - a lint for detecting noop method calls (e.g, calling `<&T as Clone>::clone()` when `T: !Clone`).

This PR does not fully realize the vision and has a few limitations that need to be addressed either before merging or in subsequent PRs:
* [ ] No UFCS support
* [ ] The warning message is pretty plain
* [ ] Doesn't work for `ToOwned`

The implementation uses [`Instance::resolve`](https://doc.rust-lang.org/nightly/nightly-rustc/rustc_middle/ty/instance/struct.Instance.html#method.resolve) which is normally later in the compiler. It seems that there are some invariants that this function relies on that we try our best to respect. For instance, it expects substitutions to have happened, which haven't yet performed, but we check first for `needs_subst` to ensure we're dealing with a monomorphic type.

Thank you to ```@davidtwco,``` ```@Aaron1011,``` and ```@wesleywiser``` for helping me at various points through out this PR ❤️.

- Ensure that the old lint names still work and give deprecation errors
- Register lints even when running doctests

  Otherwise, all `rustdoc::` lints would be ignored.

- Register all existing lints as removed

  This unfortunately doesn't work with `register_renamed` because tool
  lints have not yet been registered when rustc is running. For similar
  reasons, `check_backwards_compat` doesn't work either. Call
  `register_removed` directly instead.

- Fix fallout

Note that this does *not* suggest `rustdoc::broken_intra_doc_links` for
`rustdoc::intra_doc_link_resolution_failure`, since there was no time
when the latter was valid.

Add #[rustc_legacy_const_generics]

This is the first step towards removing `#[rustc_args_required_const]`: a new attribute is added which rewrites function calls of the form `func(a, b, c)` to `func::<{b}>(a, c)`. This allows previously stabilized functions in `stdarch` which use `rustc_args_required_const` to use const generics instead.

This new attribute is not intended to ever be stabilized, it is only intended for use in `stdarch` as a replacement for `#[rustc_args_required_const]`.

```rust
#[rustc_legacy_const_generics(1)]
pub fn foo<const Y: usize>(x: usize, z: usize) -> [usize; 3] {
    [x, Y, z]
}
fn main() {
    assert_eq!(foo::<{1 + 1}>(0 + 0, 2 + 2), [0, 2, 4]);
Implement RFC 2580: Pointer metadata & VTable
RFC: https://github.com/rust-lang/rfcs/pull/2580
~~Before merging this PR:~~
* [x] Wait for the end of the RFC’s [FCP to merge](https://github.com/rust-lang/rfcs/pull/2580#issuecomment-759145278).
* [x] Open a tracking issue: https://github.com/rust-lang/rust/issues/81513
* [x] Update `#[unstable]` attributes in the PR with the tracking issue number
----
This PR extends the language with a new lang item for the `Pointee` trait which is special-cased in trait resolution to implement it for all types. Even in generic contexts, parameters can be assumed to implement it without a corresponding bound.
For this I mostly imitated what the compiler was already doing for the `DiscriminantKind` trait. I’m very unfamiliar with compiler internals, so careful review is appreciated.
This PR also extends the standard library with new unstable APIs in `core::ptr` and `std::ptr`:
```rust
pub trait Pointee {
    /// One of `()`, `usize`, or `DynMetadata<dyn SomeTrait>`
    type Metadata: Copy + Send + Sync + Ord + Hash + Unpin;
}

pub trait Thin = Pointee<Metadata = ()>;

pub const fn metadata<T: ?Sized>(ptr: *const T) -> <T as Pointee>::Metadata {}

pub const fn from_raw_parts<T: ?Sized>(*const (), <T as Pointee>::Metadata) -> *const T {}
pub const fn from_raw_parts_mut<T: ?Sized>(*mut (),<T as Pointee>::Metadata) -> *mut T {}

impl<T: ?Sized> NonNull<T> {
    pub const fn from_raw_parts(NonNull<()>, <T as Pointee>::Metadata) -> NonNull<T> {}

    /// Convenience for `(ptr.cast(), metadata(ptr))`
    pub const fn to_raw_parts(self) -> (NonNull<()>, <T as Pointee>::Metadata) {}
}

impl<T: ?Sized> *const T {
    pub const fn to_raw_parts(self) -> (*const (), <T as Pointee>::Metadata) {}
}

impl<T: ?Sized> *mut T {
    pub const fn to_raw_parts(self) -> (*mut (), <T as Pointee>::Metadata) {}
}

/// `<dyn SomeTrait as Pointee>::Metadata == DynMetadata<dyn SomeTrait>`
pub struct DynMetadata<Dyn: ?Sized> {
    // Private pointer to vtable
}

impl<Dyn: ?Sized> DynMetadata<Dyn> {
    pub fn size_of(self) -> usize {}
    pub fn align_of(self) -> usize {}
    pub fn layout(self) -> crate::alloc::Layout {}
}

unsafe impl<Dyn: ?Sized> Send for DynMetadata<Dyn> {}
unsafe impl<Dyn: ?Sized> Sync for DynMetadata<Dyn> {}
impl<Dyn: ?Sized> Debug for DynMetadata<Dyn> {}
impl<Dyn: ?Sized> Unpin for DynMetadata<Dyn> {}
impl<Dyn: ?Sized> Copy for DynMetadata<Dyn> {}
impl<Dyn: ?Sized> Clone for DynMetadata<Dyn> {}
impl<Dyn: ?Sized> Eq for DynMetadata<Dyn> {}
impl<Dyn: ?Sized> PartialEq for DynMetadata<Dyn> {}
impl<Dyn: ?Sized> Ord for DynMetadata<Dyn> {}
impl<Dyn: ?Sized> PartialOrd for DynMetadata<Dyn> {}
impl<Dyn: ?Sized> Hash for DynMetadata<Dyn> {}
```
API differences from the RFC, in areas noted as unresolved questions in the RFC:
* Module-level functions instead of associated `from_raw_parts` functions on `*const T` and `*mut T`, following the precedent of `null`, `slice_from_raw_parts`, etc.
* Added `to_raw_parts`
Fix SourceMap::start_point
`start_point` needs to return the *first* character's span, but it would
previously call `find_width_of_character_at_span` which returns the span
of the *last* character. The implementation is now fixed.
Other changes:
- Minor simplification in find_width_of_character_at_span code
Only store a LocalDefId in some HIR nodes
Some HIR nodes are guaranteed to be HIR owners: Item, TraitItem, ImplItem, ForeignItem and MacroDef.
As a consequence, we do not need to store the `HirId`'s `local_id`, and we can directly store a `LocalDefId`.
This allows to avoid a bit of the dance with `tcx.hir().local_def_id` and `tcx.hir().local_def_id_to_hir_id` mappings.
Use debug log level for developer oriented logs
The information logged here is of limited general interest, while at the
same times makes it impractical to simply enable logging and share the
resulting logs due to the amount of the output produced.
Reduce log level from info to debug for developer oriented information.
For example, when building cargo, this reduces the amount of logs
generated by `RUSTC_LOG=info cargo build` from 265 MB to 79 MB.
HWAddressSanitizer support
#  Motivation
Compared to regular ASan, HWASan has a [smaller overhead](https://source.android.com/devices/tech/debug/hwasan). The difference in practice is that HWASan'ed code is more usable, e.g. Android device compiled with HWASan can be used as a daily driver.
# Example
```
fn main() {
    let xs = vec![0, 1, 2, 3];
    let _y = unsafe { *xs.as_ptr().offset(4) };
}
```
# Comments/Caveats
* HWASan is only supported on arm64.
* I'm not sure if I should add a feature gate or piggyback on the existing one for sanitizers.
* HWASan requires `-C target-feature=+tagged-globals`. That flag should probably be set transparently to the user. Not sure how to go about that.
# TODO
* Need more tests.
* Update documentation.
* Fix symbolization.
* Integrate with CI
Add a new ABI to support cmse_nonsecure_call
This adds support for the `cmse_nonsecure_call` feature to be able to perform non-secure function call.
See the discussion on Zulip [here](https://rust-lang.zulipchat.com/#narrow/stream/131828-t-compiler/topic/Support.20for.20callsite.20attributes/near/223054928).
This is a followup to #75810 which added `cmse_nonsecure_entry`. As for that PR, I assume that the changes are small enough to not have to go through a RFC but I don't mind doing one if needed 😃
I did not yet create a tracking issue, but if most of it is fine, I can create one and update the various files accordingly (they refer to the other tracking issue now).
On the Zulip chat, I believe `@jonas-schievink` volunteered to be a reviewer 💯
This allows to directly map from a DefPathHash to the crate it
originates from, without constructing side tables to do that mapping.
It also allows to reliably and cheaply check for DefPathHash collisions.
ce9818f2b7 Add a new ABI to support cmse_nonsecure_call
This commit adds a new ABI to be selected via `extern
"C-cmse-nonsecure-call"` on function pointers in order for the compiler to
apply the corresponding cmse_nonsecure_call callsite attribute.
For Armv8-M targets supporting TrustZone-M, this will perform a
non-secure function call by saving, clearing and calling a non-secure
function pointer using the BLXNS instruction.
See the page on the unstable book for details.
Improve handling of spans around macro result parse errors
Fixes #81543
After we expand a macro, we try to parse the resulting tokens as a AST
node. This commit makes several improvements to how we handle spans when
an error occurs:
* Only ovewrite the original `Span` if it's a dummy span. This preserves
  a more-specific span if one is available.
* Use `self.prev_token` instead of `self.token` when emitting an error
  message after encountering EOF, since an EOF token always has a dummy
  span
* Make `SourceMap::next_point` leave dummy spans unused. A dummy span
  does not have a logical 'next point', since it's a zero-length span.
  Re-using the span span preserves its 'dummy-ness' for other checks
Implement Rust 2021 panic
This implements the Rust 2021 versions of `panic!()`. See https://github.com/rust-lang/rust/issues/80162 and https://github.com/rust-lang/rfcs/pull/3007.
It does so by replacing `{std, core}::panic!()` by a bulitin macro that expands to either `$crate::panic::panic_2015!(..)` or `$crate::panic::panic_2021!(..)` depending on the edition of the caller.
This does not yet make std's panic an alias for core's panic on Rust 2021 as the RFC proposes. That will be a separate change: c5273bdfb2 That change is blocked on figuring out what to do with https://github.com/rust-lang/rust/issues/80846 first.
Add disambiugator to ExpnData
Due to macro expansion, its possible to end up with two distinct
`ExpnId`s that have the same `ExpnData` contents. This violates the
contract of `HashStable`, since two unequal `ExpnId`s will end up with
equal `Fingerprint`s.
This commit adds a `disambiguator` field to `ExpnData`, which is used to
force two otherwise-equivalent `ExpnData`s to be distinct.
resolve: Scope visiting doesn't need an `Ident`
Resolution scope visitor (`fn visit_scopes`) currently takes an `Ident` parameter, but it doesn't need a full identifier, or even its span, it only needs the `SyntaxContext` part.
The `SyntaxContext` part is necessary because scope visitor has to jump to macro definition sites, so it has to be directed by macro expansion information somehow.
I think it's clearer to pass only the necessary part.
Yes, usually visiting happens as a part of an identifier resolution, but in cases like collecting traits in scope (#80765) or collecting typo suggestions that's not the case.
2b2462e8b0 Stop using intermediate macros in definition of symbols
Currently, the rustc_macros::symbols macro generates two
`macro_rules!` macros as its output. These two macros are
used in rustc_span/src/symbol.rs.
This means that each Symbol that we define is represented
in the AST of rustc_symbols twice: once in the definition
of the `define_symbols!` macro (similarly for the
`keywords! macro), and once in the rustc_span::symbols
definition.
That would be OK if there were only a handful of symbols,
but currently we define over 1100 symbols. The definition
of the `define_symbols!` macro contains the expanded definition
of each symbol, so that's a lot of AST storage wasted on a
macro that is used exactly once.
This commit removes the `define_symbols` macro, and simply
allows the proc macro to directly generate the
`rustc_symbols::symbol::sym` module.
The benefit is mainly in reducing memory wasted during
compilation of rustc itself. It should also reduce memory used
by Rust Analyzer.
This commit also reduces the size of the AST for symbol
definitions, by moving two `#[allow(...)]` attributes from
the symbol constants to the `sym` module. This eliminates 2200+
attribute nodes.
This commit also eliminates the need for the `digits_array`
constant. There's no need to store an array of Symbol values
for digits. We can simply define a constant of the base value,
and add to that base value.
Rollup merge of #79000 - sivadeilra:user/ardavis/lev_distance, r=wesleywiser
Move lev_distance to rustc_ast, make non-generic
rustc_ast currently has a few dependencies on rustc_lexer. Ideally, an AST
would not have any dependency its lexer, for minimizing
design-time dependencies. Breaking this dependency would also have practical
benefits, since modifying rustc_lexer would not trigger a rebuild of rustc_ast.
This commit does not remove the rustc_ast --> rustc_lexer dependency,
but it does remove one of the sources of this dependency, which is the
code that handles fuzzy matching between symbol names for making suggestions
in diagnostics. Since that code depends only on Symbol, it is easy to move
it to rustc_span. It might even be best to move it to a separate crate,
since other tools such as Cargo use the same algorithm, and have simply
contain a duplicate of the code.
This changes the signature of find_best_match_for_name so that it is no
longer generic over its input. I checked the optimized binaries, and this
function was duplicated for nearly every call site, because most call sites
used short-lived iterator chains, generic over Map and such. But there's
no good reason for a function like this to be generic, since all it does
is immediately convert the generic input (the Iterator impl) to a concrete
Vec<Symbol>. This has all of the costs of generics (duplicated method bodies)
with no benefit.
Changing find_best_match_for_name to be non-generic removed about 10KB of
code from the optimized binary. I know it's a drop in the bucket, but we have
to start reducing binary size, and beginning to tame over-use of generics
is part of that.
RFC-2229: Implement Precise Capture Analysis
### This PR introduces
- Feature gate for RFC-2229 (incomplete) `capture_disjoint_field`
- Rustc Attribute to print out the capture analysis `rustc_capture_analysis`
- Precise capture analysis
### Description of the analysis
1. If the feature gate is not set then all variables that are not local to the closure will be added to the list of captures. (This is for backcompat)
2. The rest of the analysis is based entirely on how the captured `Place`s are used within the closure. Precise information (i.e. projections) about the `Place` is maintained throughout.
3. To reduce the amount of information we need to keep track of, we do a minimization step. In this step, we determine a list such that no Place within this list represents an ancestor path to another entry in the list.  Check rust-lang/project-rfc-2229#9 for more detailed examples.
4. To keep the compiler functional as before we implement a Bridge between the results of this new analysis to existing data structures used for closure captures. Note the new capture analysis results are only part of MaybeTypeckTables that is the information is only available during typeck-ing.
### Known issues
- Statements like `let _ = x` will make the compiler ICE when used within a closure with the feature enabled. More generally speaking the issue is caused by `let` statements that create no bindings and are init'ed using a Place expression.
### Testing
We removed the code that would handle the case where the feature gate is not set, to enable the feature as default and did a bors try and perf run. More information here: #78762
incr-comp: hash and serialize span end line/column
Hash both the length and the end location (line/column) of a span. If we
hash only the length, for example, then two otherwise equal spans with
different end locations will have the same hash. This can cause a
problem during incremental compilation wherein a previous result for a
query that depends on the end location of a span will be incorrectly
reused when the end location of the span it depends on has changed. A
similar analysis applies if some query depends specifically on the
length of the span, but we only hash the end location. So hash both.
Fix #46744, fix #59954, fix #63161, fix #73640, fix #73967, fix #74890, fix #75900
---
See #74890 for a more in-depth analysis.
I haven't thought about what other problems this root cause could be responsible for. Please let me know if anything springs to mind. I believe the issue has existed since the inception of incremental compilation.
Implement destructuring assignment for tuples
This is the first step towards implementing destructuring assignment (RFC: https://github.com/rust-lang/rfcs/pull/2909, tracking issue: #71126). This PR is the first part of #71156, which was split up to allow for easier review.
Quick summary: This change allows destructuring the LHS of an assignment if it's a (possibly nested) tuple.
It is implemented via a desugaring (AST -> HIR lowering) as follows:
```rust
(a,b) = (1,2)
```
... becomes ...
```rust
{
  let (lhs0,lhs1) = (1,2);
  a = lhs0;
  b = lhs1;
}
```
Thanks to `@varkor` who helped with the implementation, particularly around default binding modes.
The lint checks arguments in calls to `transmute` or functions that have
`Pointer` as a trait bound and displays a warning if the argument is a function
although it doesn't depend on the exact expansion of the macro or formatting
internals. `std::fmt::Pointer` and `std::fmt::Pointer::fmt` were also added as
Without this change, the following code compiles, but does nothing:
The change just does compile-time detection. I think that runtime
replace `#[allow_internal_unstable]` with `#[rustc_allow_const_fn_unstable]` for `const fn`s
`#[allow_internal_unstable]` is currently used to side-step feature gate and stability checks.
While it was originally only meant to be used only on macros, its use was expanded to `const fn`s.
This pr adds stricter checks for the usage of `#[allow_internal_unstable]` (only on macros) and introduces the `#[rustc_allow_const_fn_unstable]` attribute for usage on `const fn`s.
This pr does not change any of the functionality associated with the use of `#[allow_internal_unstable]` on macros or the usage of `#[rustc_allow_const_fn_unstable]` (instead of `#[allow_internal_unstable]`) on `const fn`s (see https://github.com/rust-lang/rust/issues/69399#issuecomment-712911540).
Note: The check for `#[rustc_allow_const_fn_unstable]` currently only validates that the attribute is used on a function, because I don't know how I would check if the function is a `const fn` at the place of the check. I therefore openend this as a 'draft pull request'.
Commit #3:
fixed mir-opt non-mir extensions and spanview title elements
Corrected a fairly recent assumption in runtest.rs that all MIR dump
files end in .mir. (It was appending .mir to the graphviz .dot and
spanview .html file names when generating blessed output files. That
also left outdated files in the baseline alongside the files with the
incorrect names, which I've now removed.)
Updated spanview HTML title elements to match their content, replacing a
hardcoded and incorrect name that was left in accidentally when
originally submitted.
Commit #4:
also improved Makefiles with support for non-zero exit status and to
Commit #14:
Commit #15:
Ignore llvm-cov show diff on test with generics, expand IO error message
Tests with generics produce llvm-cov show results with demangled names
that can include an unstable "crate disambiguator" (hex value). The
value changes when run in the Rust CI Windows environment. I added a sed
filter to strip them out (in a prior commit), but sed also appears to
fail in the same environment. Until I can figure out a workaround, I'm
just going to ignore this specific test result. I added a FIXME to
follow up later, but it's not that critical.
I also saw an error with Windows GNU, but the IO error did not
specify a path for the directory or file that triggered the error. I
updated the error messages to provide more info for next, time but also
noticed some other tests with similar steps did not fail. Looks
spurious.
Commit #16:
Rollup merge of #77170 - ecstatic-morse:const-fn-ptr, r=oli-obk
Remove `#[rustc_allow_const_fn_ptr]` and add `#![feature(const_fn_fn_ptr_basics)]`
`rustc_allow_const_fn_ptr` was a hack to work around the lack of an escape hatch for the "min `const fn`" checks in const-stable functions. Now that we have co-opted `allow_internal_unstable` for this purpose, we no longer need a bespoke attribute.
Now this functionality is gated under `const_fn_fn_ptr_basics` (how concise!), and `#[allow_internal_unstable(const_fn_fn_ptr_basics)]` replaces `#[rustc_allow_const_fn_ptr]`. `const_fn_fn_ptr_basics` allows function pointer types to appear in the arguments and locals of a `const fn` as well as function pointer casts to be performed inside a `const fn`. Both of these were allowed in constants and statics already. Notably, this does **not** allow users to invoke function pointers in a const context. Presumably, we will use a nicer name for that (`const_fn_ptr`?).
Rollup merge of #76965 - fusion-engineering-forks:fix-atomic-from-mut, r=Amanieu
Add cfg(target_has_atomic_equal_alignment) and use it for Atomic::from_mut.
Fixes some platform-specific problems with #74532 by using the actual alignment of the types instead of hardcoding a few `target_arch`s.
Remove MMX from Rust
Follow-up to https://github.com/rust-lang/stdarch/pull/890
This removes most of MMX from Rust (tests pass with small changes), keeping stable `is_x86_feature_detected!("mmx")` working.
Rollup merge of #76825 - lcnr:array-windows-apply, r=varkor
use `array_windows` instead of `windows` in the compiler
I do think these changes are beautiful, but do have to admit that using type inference for the window length
can easily be confusing. This seems like a general issue with const generics, where inferring constants adds an additional
complexity which users have to learn and keep in mind.
Note when a a move/borrow error is caused by a deref coercion
Fixes #73268
When a deref coercion occurs, we may end up with a move error if the
base value has been partially moved out of. However, we do not indicate
anywhere that a deref coercion is occuring, resulting in an error
message with a confusing span.
This PR adds an explicit note to move errors when a deref coercion is
involved. We mention the name of the type that the deref-coercion
resolved to, as well as the `Deref::Target` associated type being used.
7225f66887 Adds two source span utility functions used in source-based coverage
`span.is_empty()` - returns true if `lo()` and `hi()` are equal. This is
not only a convenience, but makes it clear that a `Span` can be empty
(that is, retrieving the source for an empty `Span` will return an empty
string), and codifies the (otherwise undocumented--in the rustc_span
package, at least) fact that `Span` is a half-open interval (where
`hi()` is the open end).
`source_map.lookup_file_span()` - returns an enclosing `Span`
representing the start and end positions of the file enclosing the given
`BytePos`. This gives developers a clear way to quickly determine if any
any other `BytePos` or `Span` is also from the same file (for example,
by simply calling `file_span.contains(span)`).
This results in much simpler code and is much more runtime efficient
compared with the obvious alternative: calling `source_map.lookup_line()`
for any two `Span`'s byte positions, handle both arms of the `Result`
(both contain the file), and then compare files. It is also more
efficient than the non-public method `lookup_source_file_idx()` for each
`BytePos`, because, while comparing the internal source file indexes
would be efficient, looking up the source file index for every `BytePos`
or `Span` to be compared requires a binary search (worst case
performance being O(log n) for every lookup).
`source_map.lookup_file_span()` performs the binary search only once, to
get the `file_span` result that can be used to compare to any number of
other `BytePos` or `Span` values and those comparisons are always O(1).
