Previously, if statements of the form "Foo;" or "let _ = Foo;" were encountered
where Foo had a destructor, the destructors were not run. This changes
the relevant locations in trans to check for ty::type_needs_drop and invokes
trans_to_lvalue instead of trans_into.
Closes#4734Closes#6892
This was missed when dropping the null-termination from our string
types. An explicit null byte can still be placed anywhere in a string if
desired, but there's no reason to stick one at the end of every string
constant.
Makes labelled loops hygiene by performing renaming of the labels
defined in e.g. `'x: loop { ... }` and then used in break and continue
statements within loop body so that they act hygienically when used with
macros.
Closes#12262.
Major changes:
- Define temporary scopes in a syntax-based way that basically defaults
to the innermost statement or conditional block, except for in
a `let` initializer, where we default to the innermost block. Rules
are documented in the code, but not in the manual (yet).
See new test run-pass/cleanup-value-scopes.rs for examples.
- Refactors Datum to better define cleanup roles.
- Refactor cleanup scopes to not be tied to basic blocks, permitting
us to have a very large number of scopes (one per AST node).
- Introduce nascent documentation in trans/doc.rs covering datums and
cleanup in a more comprehensive way.
**Note**: I only tested on top of my #10670 PR, size reductions come from both change sets.
With this, [more enums are shrinked](https://gist.github.com/eddyb/08fef0dfc6ff54e890bc), the most significant one being `ast_node`, from 104 bytes (master) to 96 (#10670) and now to 32 bytes.
My own testcase requires **200MB** less when compiling (not including the other **200MB** gained in #10670), and rustc-stage2 is down by about **130MB**.
I believe there is more to gain by fiddling with the enums' layouts.
If an item is skipped due to it being unreachable or for some optimization, then
it shouldn't be encoded into the metadata (because it wasn't present in the
first place).
Also redefine all of the standard logging macros to use more rust code instead
of custom LLVM translation code. This makes them a bit easier to understand, but
also more flexibile for future types of logging.
Additionally, this commit removes the LogType language item in preparation for
changing how logging is performed.
.with_c_str() is a replacement for the old .as_c_str(), to avoid
unnecessary boilerplate.
Replace all usages of .to_c_str().with_ref() with .with_c_str().
- Made naming schemes consistent between Option, Result and Either
- Changed Options Add implementation to work like the maybe monad (return None if any of the inputs is None)
- Removed duplicate Option::get and renamed all related functions to use the term `unwrap` instead
Until now, we only optimized away impossible branches when there is a
literal true/false in the code. But since the LLVM IR builder already does
constant folding for us, we can trivially expand that to work with
constants as well.
